I found a good deal on this player from eCost $229.

It features DVD-A and built in DTS decoding.

Ive heard that DVD-A will only output fom the Analog 5.1 jacks.

My reciever has Analog 5.1 input for external decoders.

Do I need to use that, too for the built in DTS decoding?

Isnt there a performance degrade versus the Digital outputs?


Also, does anyone know if the Black version has a Black Remote?
My parents have a XV-SA65GD and it has a light grey remote.

Yeah, if you want to use the on-board DTS decoding, then it will go through the analog outputs, just like the DVD Audio. I can't tell a big difference between using the on-board decoders in the DVD player vs. the ones in my receiver. Keep in mind that if you use DVD Audio or on-board DTS & DD decoding with this player that you need to go into the player's menu and turn the downmix to "OFF" before doing so. Otherwise, it won't sound even close to correct. Of course, all that is covered in the instruction manual. I only point it out because I've forgotten to do it myself a few times.

I just fired up my cool new DVD player last night and was playing around.

I have the Pro. scan set to AUTO but I had to manually (holding the vfp? button) select Pro. mode. This doesn't seen right. Anyone else have any experience using Pro. scan?
I also didn't see any HUGE difference in video quality. Althought I've only watched one movie.

Also side note, Anyone using an auto-switching sub-woof? I've have the setting on HIGH but still lose signal (standby) during the movie and it rarely (if at all) comes back on. Any idea's on that one.

BTW: DVD Audio sounds AWESOME!!! Well worth the extra cost!
