XBox DVD Remote:

I dunno if this was already answered, but I'm wondering about the XBox DVD remote and do you actually need to specifically use it to control the DVD functions on the XBox? Could you instead use a learning universal remote to control it..? At least with captured infared signals from the XBox remote.

?

Unfortunately you have to buy an official Xbox remote package to be able to control DVD playback on the Xbox. The reason why is b/c the Xbox doesn't come with an IR receiver built-in, the IR-receiver comes with the remote package... So yeah, you could get a learning remote and capture the signals from an Xbox remote, however you'd still have to obtain the IR-receiver to plug into the Xbox iteself.

Nice try though

Thanks - you actually answered exactly what I needed to know. I was aware of the IR receiver and all - I just specifically DO NOT NEED yet another remote control. :>

Thanks again

What kind of plug does the IR receiver use to plug into the Xbox?

If it's anything like the PS2, the receiver plugs into a game controller port.

Most retailers track PS2 sales by serial number now so Mr. Frauds trick will not even work. Hell I think even wal-mart tracks by serial number. If you want an extended warranty, buy it. Or just eat the cost of the unit if you roll the dice and they come up craps on your unit.

I've seen more and more retailers keeping track of serial numbers on electronics to put a stop to these kinds of games.
