PS2 and DD and DTS

I have a PS2 as my dvd player now, and a sony str de855 receiver, the PS2 is plugged in with an optical cable, but I can't get dolby digital or DTS to work. Is it a problem with my receiver settings, or could it be that PS2 cant do DTS etc. I think its the first problem, but does anyone know how to fix it? If I cant get this to work I may buy a JVC progressive scan dvd audio player, and hopefully I can get that to come out in DD and DTS. Any suggestions/comments would be appreciated.

I'm using a PS2 with the Sony STR-DE845 receiver and I get both DD and DTS with no problem. Make sure that you have DD and DTS enabled on your PS2. I can't recall the exact procedure, but it's in one of the set-up menus and you should be able to reference your PS2 manual to see what to do.

and once you have DD/DTS enabled on your PS2, do you just set the receiver on Auto Format Decode?
