KLH won't load DVDs

I'm new at this DVD thng so have patience with me. I just received a KLH DVD Home Theater system as a gift. It plays audio CDs great but it won't load a DVD. Tried several, none work. I read a thread on aligning a Panasonic for the different disks. Is this possible on the KLH?

Thanks
Dave

If this is a brand new unit and will not load a DVD then I suggest it is defective and should be returned.

Well, tonight it played 1 DVD. I tried 4 others and none of them would load. I'm going to try these DVDs in my daughters DVD player tomorrow and if they play, this one will be heading back to the store.

if it is this one

do yourself a favor and return it and pick up the aiwa system with a cheaper ( toshiba 1700 maybe) but better DVD player. There are a lot of problems with this home theater and it has been returned several times in my department. Also i believe it to be only a single laser ( 1st gen) DVD player which would explain the problems reading newer discs.( dual/tri layered)

I suggest getting rid of that thing as soon as possible. I bought one of their first generation dvd players 2 and a half years ago as my first player and it wouldn't read anything that had dvd rom content on it. I called almost everyday to try and get my replacement parts that would fix it but they never sent them. After about 8 months I finally just bought a different player. I missed out on a year of dvd buying because I was too afraid that I was going to buy something that didn't work.

Thanks for the replies.

I returned the KLH and got a Sony NS400D. Same price, no speakers. The Sony is working great. I'll add the surround sound later.

All DVD players are single laser by nature, so this had nothing to do with the problem. Also there is no such thing as a tri-layered disc, though when HD-DVD comes around that will contain multiple layers.

When you see a player with dual lasers, all that means is the second laser is used for CDs usually allowing playback of CD-R.
