Best small HDTV

I was looking to get a HDTV ready which would fit in a space 36" wide. I was thinking about screen sizes of 27" - 32". Any recommendatations? Will I be able to tell the difference with a tv so small? Mainly I'm getting this to enjoy my dvd collections(thank you 7CY). I was hoping to spend around $1k.

Anybody have input on this? Since I'll be moving often (about once a year), I'd like a smaller TV, around 25-27". Do they even make HDTV's that small? Or should I forget about HDTV and just get a quality TV like a WEGA?

Sam's did have an AKAI 27" that has the anamorphic squeeze and all. Flat screen, etc.

Some say it's a rebadged Samsung, but I'm not sure. Was somewhere around $319 or so.

Not to bust your bubble, but a TV cannot really be called HD unless it supports 1080i or 780p. Some will argue further that it must be a 16:9 set. That said, you should still be happy with 480 lines if DVD is the greatest demand you will be putting on the set.

As for the "best" TV in that size, you will do no better than a Princeton but it's a little pricey. Here's the 32" model, and smaller sets are available: http://www.digitalconnection.com/HomeTheater/ar32t.htm

I think there are a couple 32" widescreen and 30" widescreen hdtvs out there.. check phillips for sure...

editing to add that not only does philips make a 30" but so does Loewe..

they are both at thegoodguys.com, but you should be able to find better pricing..

I have the new 32" Samsung TSK3295HF (4 x 3). It supports 480i, 480p, and 1080i, with really good picture quality. It costs ~$1500 at Tweeter (a cheaper version is available at Best Buy). They also have a 27" version. The TV is heavy as hell, but it seems to be good quality. The only complaint is imperfect geometry. When watching anamorphic DVDs the top and bottom lines are not completely straight, there is a real faint bow-tie shape towards the center.

if you want an HDTV then it does technically need to be a 16x9 set. most brands make a 34 inch model. the sony has an amazing picture but it is still pricey (about $4000, i remember when it came out it was $8000.) the panasonic is pretty nice too.
