need advice on dvd player
i have never even used a dvd player before (excpet for dvd rom) and want to know what brand is a good for around $200. I plan on getting a tv out card for my computer so i can watch stuff from my computer to tv. does that mean that i need to get a dvd player with something that will handle tv out, or are these two totally different things? Also what features should i look for in a player? i want something that plays music cds and vcds etc. don't know what dvds all play. any help would be nice. thanks.

So I take it you have a DVD player in your computer?
If you are getting a TV out card for your computer then you can just connect your computer directly to your TV. I don't think the quality would be as good as a standalone player though, but maybe someone can correct me if I am wrong.
Otherwise just about all the major brands have good quality DVD players around $200. I would stick to Sony, Panasonic, and Toshiba.

If you get a stand-alone DVD Player you won't need a video card with TV-Out unless you want to play games or cruise the internet on your bigscreen. Most DVD Players have 3 video-out ports; composite, S-Video & component. There are also 2 types of players; interlaced & progressive. Your TV must have progressive-in to utilize the latter but will still work fine with a non-progressive TV. The current $200 progressive front runners are the Panasonic RP56, Toshiba 3750 & the JVC XV-S65GD. All play MP3s & CD-Rs. IMHO you can't go wrong with any of them. The Tosh is a little more user friendly while the Pany has an excellent digital processing chip. The JVC is rumored (haven't seen one) to have an excellent picture. Personally, I bought the Tosh for it's zoom feature & ability to simutaneously send it's signal to S-Video & component at the same time. Needed this feature for easy switching between my 55" RPTV & 100" FPTV. Good luck!
