Progressive Scan Question

I'm in the market for a new DVD player, will I receive any benefit from a progressive scan dvd player if my TV is a 36 inch Toshiba with a component video hookup?

TIA

If the component input accepts a progressive signal it will. Does your TV have a 16x9 mode that will accept a 480p signal?

If your TV has component inputs, you will receive a better image. However, you will not receive a progressive scan image because your TV is not digital. I would recommend, however, if buying a new DVD player to go ahead and get a prog. scan. It won't hurt and you will be ready if you ever upgrade to a digital TV. Sony has a sweet on out of under $300 now.

Unless you mean, "If your TV has component inputs, you will receive a better image compared to the results from your S-Video input", I'll have to disagree. If your TV is not capable of displaying a progressive signal, a progressive player will not give you a better picture than a non-progressive player, all other factors being equal.

I agree with the above. If there's any chance you'll have a progressive-capable tv in the near-to-mid future, you might as well buy a progressive player. Other brands to look at: Panasonic and Toshiba.

The picture quality of a progressive scan DVD player on an HDTV is a BIG improvement over both s-video and standard component video.

Yeah, I have to second the recommendation of getting the progressive scan player if you're going with a tv set that can utilize it any time in the near future. As much as I had been told about the improvement in picture, I just received mine today and can not believe the difference on my new HDTV

I've been looking at this new Pioneer DV-444.

Only problem with it is that I can't find it at any stores. Only online but for $199 (same price as the DV-440 without progressive scan).
