Well guys, DVD player won't play certain DVDs...

...And I have taken it to Best Buy under my plan, had them say there;s nothing wrong with it, and send it home with me, problems still in tact.
The DVDs it won't play are Robocop CC, GimmeShelter CC, and The Insider. My model is a Sony DVP-330. I know it's not the films because I played them successfully in other players.

I have had this player since Summer of 1999 and am wondering if it might be on its last legs. I have a coupon for 10% off players at BB this weekend and might have to sell the old and get a new one.

Any advice?

P.S. I wanted this thread to get a little attention before it got moved to wherever, which I think it will.

try taking it to a different Best Buy. If you're still under the plan they should replace it free

Doesn't Best Buy's plan say that if you have to bring something in for the same problem 3 times, and they can't fix it, you get a new one? I'm pretty sure that's what they told me when we bought my wife's cd player.

Wow....my Sony (I think it was a DVP-530) stopped playing select movies, and then moved on to not playing about 80% of the dual-layer discs in my collection. I finally gave up and replaced it with a JVC XV-FA90, and haven't looked back since...

My Sony just started having this problem as well. It is just about 1 year old and it suddenly has trouble playing dual layer disks. It worked well for the first 11 months and started to degrade recently. I tried to recalibrate it but it does not help.

I have done some reading and research on the web and it appears to be a fairly common problem. I have not contacted Sony yet but, based on my reading,I expect they will require me to send it for repair (@$150 to $200!). For that price I can buy an new player.
I really like my other Sony components but it looks like they messed up with the DVD players. It's nice that these players are getting so cheap that they become 'disposable' but I hate to think I will need to buy a new one every year!
