question about component video cable

Hi,

What is component video cable? Can I just use three RCA video cables? Or, can I use one of those audio/video cable sets (yellow, red, and white). I just want to try the component video out before I throw more money to buy those expensive monster cables.

Thanks!

Well the main thing you want to make sure of is tha the cable you use is true 75 ohm cable. I would not use one of those cheapie A/V cables that come with your player for your hook up, nor would I overpay for Monster cable unless your entire set-up is already Monster.

Just look for some AR cables from Best Buy (30 bucks for a six foot set) or gold series Rat Shack component cables (40 bucks a set) and you should be fine. I am using the AR right now hooked up to my Sony Wega and have been very pleased with their performance. If you want higher quality cable that will give anything monster puts out a run for their money check out www.bettercables.com . I may end up getting some cables from them if I decide to upgrade all of my interconnects. The silver serpent series there is very nice looking.

Component video cable will provide the best picture quality for DVDs (I assume your TV has a component input), so that should not be an issue. Take the plunge and enjoy.

Yes, without color coded cables, you'll just have to be a little more careful that you hook each output to corresponding input.

Not a good idea. The red and white cables are audio cables, not video. They do not have the proper 75 ohm coax construction.

Monster Cable is way overpriced for the quality. I was in my HT place and I had a cable comparison. They had the top Monster and the top Synergistic Research. They used a SimmAudio cd player and a set of some high end speakers. The music was acoustic guitar.(I forgot who it was) He played the same song and just switched cables. He did not touch anything else. I was floored. I always thought you would need some kind of meter or equipment to see a difference, but this test made me a true believer. Now don't get me wrong, I cannot afford all Synergistic cable for my system. But my guy told me that Monster Cable was crap! That is why you can hear such a difference. He said he would used Monster Cable for rear speakers because of the long runs most people have and that's it!!!! he did like the Monster Power units. He said they were worth the money. I now have all AudioQuest interconnects and speaker cable(for the front three) i have a Synergistic for the DVD's Coaxial which was highly suggested over the Optical. And a set ot Tributaries for Components(they did not have AudioQuest in the length i needed) Skip the Monster cable and go with some other brand.

And yes cables DO make a system sound better!!!!
