RCN Cable Problem...Suggestions?
I hope someone else out there has RCN/21st Century for their cable service and can help me out.
RCN uses a crappy Scientific Atlantic box which doesn't have an internal A/B swith like my old TCI digital box did. Thus, in order have my VCR (yes, I still use one) hooked up to record regular channels and premium channels I need to set up some sort of switch.
In order to set up the switch I need to split the output from the cable box. One to the TV and one to the switch for the VCR. The funny thing is that when I do this, the signal that goes to the TV is crisp and clear and the signal that goes to the VCR ends up being snowy...even if I elminate the switch for testing purposes.
Does anyone have a suggestion on how to fix this?

The only thing that I can think of is assuming you are using channel 3 on your set as the "catch all" channel, your VCR in turn also has to be set to channel 3. I might not be understanding you totally, but I remember running into a similar situation years ago, thinking the VCR was broken, when I just had it set to the wrong channel.
Hope that helps!

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll check it out. Although, since I'm using a S-video connection to my TV I don't think the channel selection on the VCR should matter.
