Three-layer Discs?

Okay, I think this is total BS, but I thought I should post here and see if anyone had heard anything about this. A friend of mine was in BB last week looking at DVD Players. He picked one out and foolishly asked one of the employees for their opinion. The employee told him he should be sure to get the 4-year warranty plan to go with it. Conversation below:

James: "No thanks."

BB Emp: "If you don't get it, you won't be able to play the new disks"

James: "What do you mean?"

BB Emp: "Well, when Jurassic Park 3 comes out next year, it's going to be a three-layer disk. And current players won't be able to play it. If you buy the warranty, you can bring your player in and exchange it for a new one for free."

James: "Uh, I'll just take this one for now and worry about that later."

I told James that I thought this guy was talking out of his ASS. First of all, I haven't heard anything about this new "technology", and second of all, I don't believe Best Buy's extended warranty covers technology upgrades. If it does, I'm taking my Pentium 3 computer back and exchange it for a Pentium 4! What do you guys think? It would really piss me off to know that Best Buy was doing this just to sell more extended warrantys!

Your instincts are correct.

This is so blatant, that I would call the Regional Manager of
Best Buy and have this scam artist fired.

BB employees get judged by the percentage of service packages they sell above all else. So they lie, they lie right to your face.
