Sony player and dual-layer discs

What is up with my Sony DVP-S360? Twice in the past few weeks it has "jumped chapters" on dual layer discs, first with ID4 , then with Unbreakable . I've had it a little over a year and it's worked fine until this. I've heard newer players handle dual-layer better, but do I have to upgrade already?

Are you sure the discs were not scratched? I have had a number of Sony DVD players and have never had a problem with any discs.

I'll double-check them but they were both brand new discs.

jcaparula,

I've seen this in the past but usually it was a simple cleaning of the disc that did the trick. Run them under cold water and then wipe them dry with a soft, lint-free cloth. Sometimes, there is dust or other things on there that you may not be able to see.

sony dvd player error message c-13

I agree with dygaar,
From what I have read, this has been and continues to be a common problem with sony dvd players. It is not just limited to one mode. It is basically a Fatal Error, requiring the unit to be sent back to be repaired. This problem pops up sporaticaly, and the age of the player dosen't seem to be a factor.
I just purchased the DVPNS300 model from circuit city today and the first movie i played only lasted 19 mins. before Error C-13 appeared.
I suppose I am lucky, I intend to pack this piece of crap up and return it tomorrow. Unfortunately people who experience this problem after the 90 day Sony warranty ( a product that only is warranted by a manufacturer for 90 days should be a big RED FLAG!!!) experience hassels from Sony. After reading the reviews, Sony has known about this problem from the start, and the stores that they are purchased from are also informed, but for some reason they have been able to continue to sell these defective products.
One reviewer suggested a Class Action Suit needs to be filed. I agree.

I have to disagree. Most of today's electronics have a 90 day (labor) / 1 year (parts) warranty. If a certain company wants to extend their warranty they would have to raise their prices. Most customers (myself including) don't usually notice the warranty length when we purchase a product, but they (I) always notice the price. So the smartest business decision becomes offering a relatively short warranty.

Edited to add: I don't really like Sony DVD players and you should be mad. But don't judge the quality of a product by the length of the warranty.

I've got a SP-530 and had no problems so far. I think you just got the short end of the stick or some bad discs.

I also have had the 530D model for about 2 years. Except for once, every incident of chapter skipping has been resolved with a quick disk cleaning. I chalked up the one other time to a bad disc (it was a rental).
