Question about old TVs and DVD?
A friend of mine gave me his prehistoric TV. 3' screen but one of those huge suckers from the 60's with a 1-13 knob. But hey, an RF Modulator and it works! It's a semi-large screen and free! I was messing around with it on my DVD player and found out that old movies on DVDs are displayed fine but new movies (circa 1980 or so and above) show up as stretched vertically. It looks like the old alternative that movies transferred to TV used until they started editing the sides. Whether its wide screen or standard TV version, the newer DVDs always stretch vertically. Any DVD wizards out there that know why this happens? Thanks for the help.

Are you sure it doesn't only happen with anamorphic DVD's? Try setting your player to 4:3 letterbox, if you haven't done so already.
If that doesn't help, I have no idea.
