Buying a receiver online - BAD idea?
I'm thinking of upgrading my 5.1 50w receiver to a newer one with DTS. I'm looking at the Yamaha RX-V800, which I can get in town here for $999.99 (CDN). While looking online I noticed that I could get the Yamaha RX-V1000 for about the same price!
I bought my first receiver from a B&M store around here and had to take it back and exchange it twice before I got one that worked. Later on that one broke down and it had to get sent to a store to be fixed. This is something that I'm afraid of happening again, except it would be a lot worse because I'd have to pay for shipping back and forth to the store.
Now, my question, is it a bad idea to buy a receiver online? Any horror stories about it?

i say buy local... pricematch online... I just hate the shipping costs for heavy stuff. if you have a amex blue you can do this... i can go to a local HT shop and pay there reg price go home look up the lowest price from some shady dealer on the net. Call up amex and tell them the price and after i fax a few documents I get a check for the difference.

As noted in another thread, if you avoid buying online you are potentially avoiding some of the best bargains in HT. For example, the Outlaw 1050 reciever is available only online. In regards to auditioning and such, please search here or at HTF for suggestions and experiences.

Just make sure that the dealer you're buying from is an authorized dealer for the line you're purchasing. Buying from non-authorized dealers might void warranties (depending on the company)

Best Place On-Line to Buy a Denon 2802
What is the best place (in terms of price and customer-service) on-line to buy a Denon 2802 receiver? Anyone had any experience with AudioSound or ReliableAudioVideo?

yah this is a good piece of adviceon the side, www.onecall.com was really good to me and i was very satisfied with puchasing my recevier there

Buying On-line...
One of the above posts mentioned the warranties....I agree stongly....only the truly authorised dealers enable you to carry out a warranty, otherwise its void.
The other thing is to make sure that the product is not at the end of its lifecycle or discontinued. This can become a big issue if you need to return or exchange.
