Hack into a DVD player?

I'm trying to make my DVD player play alll kinds of media(almost).
Ie....VCD, CD-R, CD-RW, Region free, and PBC(Whatever that is)

Some of that I believe depends on the physical specs of the laser. I think almost every player can handle VCD. Check this website out for some help: http://regionhacks.datatestlab.com/

PBC stands for "Playback Control", and it's the advanced menu system for VCDs (kinda like a DVD's menu system). If a VCD is encoded with PBC, and the player is PBC-capable, it will use it. If not, the player will not display "PBC", and may just start playing or come up with a simple non-PBC menu.
