my friend has an old 53" projection tv. it's at least ten years old, the brand is lxi. my question is on the back of the unit there is an outlet for s-vhs, is that the same as s-video. i gave him an extra s-video cable i had and it fits in the tv and dvd player but nothing came on the screen. it's in the spot for video 1 and we had it on video 1 but no picture. the sound is through his receiver, so that was no problem. so if anyone knows anything about this dinosaur of a tv and or s-vhs please help me out.

I can't imagine what else it would be. Are you sure the player was outputting s-video? Do you normally use that connection on your player?

S-VHS is just another name for S-Video. If the s-video plug-in hasn't been used since he had the TV, it might be full of dust. Maybe cleaning it out real good would help. S-video (S-VHS) has been around longer than ten years.

This is probably what's causing it.

We used to have an old RAC 36" tv, it had s-video, we couldn't figure out how to change it to s-video, it turned out the channel had to be changed to channel 80 or something.. my best guess would be to just start with channel 60, and go on up to channel 125... best of luck to you.

Some DVD players also have a small switch on the back to tell it which video output to use. Just another little item to check in the process.

i feel like such an idiot. the s-vhs spot is in the aux-1 square on the back of the tv so i thought that that was the setting it had to be at on the input menu. i didn't look at the other input names on the menu because of this. so i look at them today and what do ya know there is an s-vhs name in the input menu. if i would have presed advance two more times the other day then this never would have happened. thank you all for your replies, feel free to laugh and ridicule.
