I believe the first recordable DVD player originally cost $17,000 and was out late last summer. As soon as I can find a good brand name DVD-R for under $1000, I'll be hooked!

I was reading a link that says that Panasonic will have a recordable DVD drive for your computer for $599 this summer.

Yaaawn, c'mon you can get a recordable dvd drive for a couple years now, they are also just 250 bucks. It's not a problem. What is a problem are the blank discs and their prices.. you can get a full movie for the price of one blank DVD-R disc.

I think the difference here, from what I read, is that new units are hitting the market than can record both DVD-R and DVD-RAM. You will be to create a DVD that can play on a standard DVD player, not just use a DVD drive a larger capacity backup media.

And it's falling in price.

Here is a link to a blurb about a stand alone unit:

Got it here though: http://www.epulse.org/cgi-bin/prsearch.cgi?record=2330

Looks like you're having a bit of trouble with your "-" (%2D) and "?" (%3F).

They have been out for a while. I read an article last fall that Pionner and Panasonic had models out for around $2000. The computer burners sound cool and prices will drop with more sales. The downside right now is that a blank DVD-R disk costs from $10-30 each
