Probably a stupid question re: 5.1/6.1

Can a DD/DTS 5.1 player play 6.1 DVDs? I think the only DVDs I have that apply to this situation are Chicken Run, Fight Club, Seven, and T2, if that helps. If so, is that rear channel really all that important? Keep in mind I'm upgrading from (gasp!) the speakers on my TV.

YES! You just won't hear the rear 6.1 channel. Which probably 90% of viewers won't either because they have 5.1/dts units.
I am waiting til next year to see what becomes available. Hoping Sony will put some new stuff out.
