I've just recently purchased the Sony DVP-S360 and I the salesman, after I bought it, mentioned to me that it doesn't have a "zoom" feature like others, therefore you can only watch dvds in widescreen mode...is this true? or is the salesman an idiot? lol...I also used Gladiator on the DVD and it was wonderful, except it was in widescreen...even when I chose the option "4:3 pan box" (or somethin' like that) or "4:3 letter box"
So, I guess my final question is if I should return the one I got for a slightly better modelthat may only cost 50 bucks more or so and be better in the long run? or is what I have good enough?

It's true. Sony does not have a zoom feature. Just get used to watching movies in widescreen! It really is a better way to watch movies.
If you don't like widscreen movies then get movies that are only in pan and scan. It sais it on the box.

so all sony players are like that? also, if watching movies in widescreen I'm assuming it would look the best on a true widescreen TV...which are the nice big expensive 16:9 ones right?

Widescreen TV's can still have black bars. It will depend on the apsect ratio of the movie.

just remember: when you're watching in widescreen, you're actually seeing the entire film, not just what fits into a 4:3 ratio screen.
Give me widescreen with black bars any day of the week over pan & scan

The Sony will play a full frame or pan and scan dvd if the dvd is made to be shown in that aspect ratio. For example, if you buy a dvd ( such as The Mummy Ultimate Edition) that has both a widescreen version and a pan and scan version of the film, if you play disc one, the movie will be shown in widescreen, if you play disc two, it will be shown in pan and scan. Others have both versions on one disc (Toy Story for example) let you choose the option which version you want thru the menu. There are also seperate pan and scan versions released of some movies. Hopefully, once you get used to the concept( and benefits) of widescreen, you will not need (or want) a player that has a zoom feature.
