If you have a Sound Blaster Live series card, there's a setting in the mixer that comes with the installation. You can choose what source to record from. Rather than fumble around trying to figure out why I can't record, I set it to record "What U Hear". This allows me to record from Sound Forge, Wavestudio or whatever.
