Thanks

Congratulations on your third post in almost a year!

Apex 703 does PAL to NTSC conversion which many expensive region free players don't do. Its worth $179 for the player if you need a cheap region free player.

If I want a multi-region player that will convert R2 PAL to NTSC, and money is not a significant issue, what's the best option?

I know there are online retailers that sell modified players; are these players good (can handle all discs, etc.), and, if so, what are the most reliable retailers?

Most philips players made be converted into regionfree players by using a generic remote.

Instructions for making philips players region free

To make Philips dvd players multiregion using a universal (Oneforall/Radioshack) remote, follow the instructions below...........................

1. Set up your generic remote to control the DVD as per the instructions that came with the remote
2. Press the DVD button

3. Press the MAGIC/SETUP/ button (P button for RS-1994)

4. Enter 085 (the dashes on your dvd will now appear)

5. Using your DVD's original remote enter the code 222 222 005 255

6. Press PLAY

unlike the PLAY 159 or PLAY 274 hacks, the DVD will not switch it self off and restart. Just put in any region disc disc and hey presto.......no region coding.......

Also I have had no issues with RCE discs as well.

I have done this on 4 differnent model philips players.

Hope this is detailed enough. I dont remember where i harvested this information, but it works.
