I am looking for a '32 TV right now and noticed that the h. resolution ranges anywhere from 500-850 lines. Is this going to matter for regular cable or even DVDs. Is there a noticable differnce. BY the way i am looking to spend up to $550, are there any good TVs for the proce i should focus on.

I *THINK* that the higher resolutions would give a sharper picture, but that is an issue I've seen debated before without real resolution. I walked through the local electronics stores comparing before deciding. I chose the Panasonic CT23SF36, which matched the picture quality of all but the digital WEGAs.
There will probably be less improvement with cable than DVD when going to sharper screens, if only because unless you've got digital cable/satelite, the signal isn't going to be that sharp anyway.

Advertised resolution is a numbers game. I've found that manufacturers can manipulate and exaggerate them anyway they please. There is no "standard" for stating a TV's resolution. Use it as a general guide but don't let it be the end all factor in deciding which set to get.
