I am not a fan of the Yamaha subs in general. I am not an expert, but they sound bad to me. I would recommend looking into another brand. For $150, you have a few options. Try to find the Sony sub with a cult following (do a forum search on "cult following") that chess was trying to get people to buy. Most people seemed impressed with it. SM-40 or something...?

I used to have 2 Yamaha Active Servo Subwoofers and really liked them - kinda wish I still had them, they sounded really good, very tight deep bass from a small box.
I eeven had the car one they made - why they quit making the car ones is beyond me, but I think you'd like the Yamaha, although the Sony will produce more bass, it just won't sound as good - to me at least.
