Hi,

I'm new in AV World. Too many equipemnts that make me confused. Kindly enlighten me.

I've the following equipments:
Sony Triniton WEGA Colour TV KV-ES34
Sony Mini Hi-Fi MHC-VZ30AV with 2 Speakers, 2 Surround and a Centre
Philips Digital Home Cinema Receiver FR-980 Amp

I've just bought a Pioneer DV-K302CD DVD Player. The manual setup have digital audio connections which teach me to use a Optical Cable or Coaxial Cable. This will give very good audio output. However, the setup for 5.1 Channel is under Analog Audio Connection.

Which way is the best for me to connect?

Presently, this is what I did:
1) TV
- SVideo In from DVD SVideo Out
- Video 1 In ( Video, Left & Right) from Amp DVD Out (Video, Left & Right)
- Video 2 In (Video) from Hi-Fi Video Out (Video)
- Audio Out (Left & Right) to Hi-Fi Audio In (Left & Right)

2) DVD
- Optical Out to Amp Optical In
- SVideo Out to TV SVideo In

3) HiFi
- Audio In (Left & Right) from TV Audio Out (Left & Right)
- Video Out to TV Video 2 In
My Hifi is a 5disc VCD Player. The Hifi has connector for 5.1 Channel but I don't know how to connect to which equipment.

4) Amp
- I actually connect 2 wire, one from the hifi speaker out and the other from the amp speaker out to one speaker. Meaning if I off the hifi, I still can control using my Amp. Is it good?

Please help.

A suggestion

Im not sure about your problem with the audio portion, but i do have a suggestion for you. The Sony Wega series has component video in, why not take advantage of it? S-video is great, dont get me wrong, but if you paid the extra dough for a tv that has component in and a dvd player that has component out, why use s-video?

Thanks. That's what I need, Expert's advice...

I got all the equipment but too confused to connect all up to get the best of them.

So there's a difference between svideo and composite video. May I ask what's the difference?

I will change the svideo to the composite video cable.

As for the audio part, I want the sound to come out of my TV and also to speakers that were connected to my amp.
However, when I play dvd, the sound only comes out from the amp to the speaker.

Well, you don't have the DVD player connected to the HiFi, only the Amp. And since you only have one speaker connected to the amp, you're not gettig any sound from anything but that one speaker.

If the HiFi doesn't have digital capability, then you should just connect the R/L audio out of the DVD player to the HiFi for the time being -- it will give you surround sound but not digital sound.
