My first post has apparently been lost. I want to make custom cds and transfer old reel and cassette tapes to cd. I'm wondering what cd recorders you guys would recommend.

Just bought a single tray model
I just purchased a single tray model made by HHB. It is a professional model and you can use data cdr or cdrw in it. http://www.oade.com has them on closeout. Being a professional model it cost a little more but has really good ADC for analog recording. I figure I will make up some of the cost difference from not buying audio cdr discs.

I have the Pioneer dual disk recorder and have no complaints whatsoever. I bought it a few years ago when it first came out and have burned in excess of 1500 cds on it, as well as recorded things off the radio and transfered all of my bootlegs and old tapes onto cd. Definitly worthwhile. I haven't looked into recorders since I bought it, but I think that the new Pioneer dual disk has some new features that are helpful (title/ track programing, for instance) Harmon Kardon also makes a consumer dual disk that I have heard good things about. Those would be my choices if I were buying one today, however if you are looking into professional recorders I am going to be no help. Sorry.
