Any suggestions for a good progressive-scan player that's preferably under $800?

I have the RCA RC-6000P when I got it, it was the cheapest model when I bought it, and I'm completely ahppy with it, although I'm tempted witht he JVC model that also supports DVD Audio

Just got the Toshiba SD-6200 dual tray model earlier this week and couldn't be happier. I picked it up online for just under $500, which I thought was a great deal.

I got this one yesterday and I agree, it's a winner!

does anyone know the differences between the 6200 and the 5109?
i'm very curious about the 6200, but can't really find it around here.

I recommend the SD-6200. The 5109 had two sets of component outputs one for interlace and one for progressive, the 6200 has one set which is controls interlaced/progressive via a button on the remote. Excellent for comparing the two formats and the clear superiorty of progressive scan. It also has advanced Super 4:4:4 Processing which is a step up from the 5109 (I believe)

Get JVC Progressive Scan DVD Video/ DVD Audio Player XVD723GD. You can buy it online for only $407.

Judging from this thread and others, it seems like the SD-6200 is a popular player. Any arguments against?

Heard a rumor that there was going to be a $700 or so Sony Progressive Scan player out soon. Something along the lines of the ES minus SACD. If anyone knows anything on this please let us know. Right now I'd probably go with the Toshiba.

actually i think it's supposed to have an msrp of around $400. supposedly a few other progressive players will be rolled out this summer at sub $500 prices. i finally found the 6200 locally, but they want $700 w/ no returns accepted. so i guess i'm gonna be waiting a couple more months for video nirvana.

I forget the model number, but denon showed their new progressive scan dvd player, and it is going to be MSRP $800. It uses the same chip as the $800 enternal line doubler now. This was the buzz of the CES show in January, I think it is supposed to be on the market this summer. Supposedly the best for the money yet! Sorry that I don't have more information on it. Try contacting denon, or go to your local denon dealer to see if they have literature on it yet.

In that price range make sure the player has 3:2 pulldown. Otherwise you're just buying a crappy line doubler. The best player I've seen in this range in the Pioneer Elite DV-37. It retails for over a grand but can be purchased for under $700.

The Harman Kardon DVD-50 comes to mind too, except I think it's jsut a line doubler, but it's a 5 disk carousel and has MP3 CD capability if that's something you're interested in check it out. You can get that one for Under $600.

Also Denon makes a 3:2 pulldown player, tough to get good discounts on Denon though.
