CRITERION PLAYTIME 2nd Printing Sealed FS

Hi-

I bought a nice collection of DVDs a few months ago but have now decided I have enough "collections" of other things, so in the next week or so I'll be selling off a number of sealed, rare and/or oops as well as some somewhat common criterions in order to feed the other attic dwellers.

Although I'm new to this board, I have a 100% rating at ebay, (harpersound5cwu) and am a Certified Biz Member at PayPal that I use
from time to time in my business.

If anyone's interested in the Criterion, PlayTime, #112
I have a SEALED copy here of the RARE "2nd printing, 2001"

I've been told it was sold on ebay for $500 and elsewhere in the 3-400 range.

If you want it and are ready to pay via paypal or money order, I'll
let it go for $195.00 plus shipping. TO U.S. ONLY

The 1ST Post in reply who expresses interest, pending any questions etc., has first right of refusal. If that person opts out, then it's on from there. That is of course if anyone's interested. (If not, it's on to ebay or amazon)

The ISBN # is: 0-78002-398-6
The UPC Code is: 3742915582

It's in the original wrapper and at the top (underneath clear wrap) there's an additional seal that says Criterion Collection and the bar code.

I'll be happy to answer any and all questions.
If this isn't of interest, be sure to keep an eye out for subsequent posts.

Thanks,
Bob

I think the story went that the first printing had some sort of defect and then was reprinted in 2001. My copy is a second printing with the same ISBN/UPC.

I would've thought, even though defective, for collectors purposes the first printing would've been more valuable. Certainly not my intention to cause the OP to miss a sale but I've never heard of a copy of Playtime going for $300 ~ $400 first or second printing. Maybe someone was confusing one OOP Criterion with another.

I have seen it go for 250-400 dollars many times but after the re-release was announced the prices flew down to 30-50 dollars.

Re Platime Info

Cameron-
Thanks for your offer to check on future titles.

JPV-Thanks for clarifying UPC numbers...dvd profiler shows the number
the way I posted for some reason

Johnny Drama-Not sure if I can find the link to the forums that were mentioning the 3,4 & 5 hundred numbers but I'll keep checking...In the
interim, here's an interesting "review" on the release at Amazon's Site regarding the "printings" thereof written Dec 2005:

The best of it's kind ... but, wait, there is no other of it's kind! Also, there are 2 Criterion versions "Last paragraph"...You want the second printing. The DVD is rare to find either way, but the second printing is much, much rarer, as you either had to trade your first printing into Criterion to get the corrected version, or find it in the stores, if they even stocked the second one prior to it going out of print. The difference is the first version had an incorrect aspect ration on the Terry Gilliam interview and the Tati short film. They both appeared squished into widescreen format, when they should have been full screen.

Harry Lime-
Thanks for your input, I knew I wasn't going crazy nor am I trying to
gouge anyone. If it's not of interest to Criterion Collectors at the moment,
I guess I'll hold on to it for a few years. Regardless of any "new" release in the midst, I'm always intrigued by words like "rare" "hard-to-find" "limited-printings" etc. etc. when it comes to art and collectibles or "may-possibly-become" collectibles. It will always be what it is...a limited edition, hard to find print from a great company...so who knows...

I'll be posting others soon...
Thanks!

This sounds strange to me as well..with the re-issue coming out..you probably won't get more than $50-70.00 for it...I know a fellow who works at Criterion -he says, there was only 1 printing of Playtime...just letting you know.
Cheers.

since everyone is pitching in...

i have to agree with jd. i do remember seeing playtime get above $200, but never $400 in my limited experience. neither do i believe it will ever get that high again with the new 2-disc release. i do think it will go back up at a later date, though.

given that, i dont think its a good time to sell that disc. if i had my grubby hands on it, id keep it forever.

re NO 2ND PRINTING

jd shapps

I had read in more than one forum, that there was indeed a first printing
that had specific problems and then a 2nd printing was released in limited
quantities. Also, buyers of the 1st copy could send it directly to the company to exchange for the "2nd printing" copy.

I took a quick photo of the back cover of my copy as evidence of same.
OR...perhaps Criterion changed the cover art "printing die" for some reason
to read "2nd printing" for the heck of it. Just letting you know...cheers.

If the image doesn't appear here, I posted it at flypicture.com at:

I still think $100 is too much. $50 is about right. Well good luck selling it.
