PThron, Odd things happen at times with packages. I sent a package priority mail from Connecticut to Minnesota and it took 16 days.

I've had a package get delayed by over a month one time going to canada. I actually went out and bought another copy of that title and was going to ship it when thankfully he emailed saying that he had finally gotten the package. Close call. I don't think it took longer than 6 weeks though, although that sounds close to what i remember.

Well, maybe I'll get lucky and it will suddenly show up at his doorstep this week.

In this case I sent first (2 away from gold yet...gotta make a couple of trades soon ;-) ) or I'd make sure I sent replacements; it's more a case of me just being out the 2 discs. But one was oop and I wanted to make this trade. At least the other trader has been patient...the discs he promised are still aside for me if the package ever arrives.

Hey, in the end it's just a couple of pieces of plastic and a few bucks lost...
...'course if it'd been Salo CC and The Killer CC in that package I'd be less philosophical about the whole thing. :-)

Forget it, I'm the King of Customs Slamming! I've had almost every package sent to me that was thicker than 2 inches stopped and opened by those rats! I sometimes thought I was getting an awesome deal on some OOP's and then had those thoughs quickly dashed due to the fact that I would get charged $10 Cdn for 2 oop dvd's! Still contemplating whether I want to hang up my trading spurs. I've definitely slowed down in my trades, for sure.
P.S.
bigskillet, OH! I think I love u, and will love u for a long, long.....
wait, sorry, I think I'm finished. never mind.

I think that it you contact Canada Post, they may be able to tell you if it is in customs or not. That is what I was told before. I refuse to receive or send an OOP DVD unless there is tracking and insurance involved, strictly because of the troubles that I have had with Canada Post before.

Panayoti: I really think that you must be flagged by customs. I have received a lot of packages, some of them really big boxes with a value of $100 US marked on the customs form, and only for that one ebay experience, I have never been hit with customs through trades. I ordered some stuff from Amazon.com recently, and since they ship out from Canada, I am not expecting to get hit by that either....at least I shouldn't be hit, but you never know with Canada Post and Customs...

yeah, I'm sure I've been flagged and I'll just keep appealing and giving them more work to do is all. I've got this knockdown crap happening at work and I refuse to take it there and I'm sick of constantly having to take it from Customs too even though all of the customs forms I've recieved have stated gifts and less than $60 on them.
On a sidenote, I got my first bootleg from a friggin' trade about a month back and didn't realize it until I popped it into my dvd player. I have never recieved one of these before and was shocked at how crap the quality was. It was sealed too which was even more shocking but then again I know a used shop that reseals all their used product to make it more enticing and to hike the price also. Well, i guess it had to happen sooner or later.
Luckily, I haven't been burnt yet on a trade so I guess my karma isn't all bad.... oh, yeah, and Shreddies is my favourite cereal.

What bootleg did you get? I guess that you didn't know before hand it was bootleg? I know a few people that get bootlegs off of ebay, since that is the only way to get the movie they want on DVD in R1...

No, brother, I didn't realize it was a bootleg till someone here pointed out that Battle Royale never came in a R0! I didnt even realize it until he told me so and I had even watched the movie right through until the end. I just thought it was a crap print. I traded for it with someone here for it and couldn't remember who it was otherwise I would have words with buddy, let me tell u.

You should keep a log of every trade to help you keep track, just in case. I have one with date I sent by what method from which post office, date they sent by what method, date we both received. Any delivery confirmation forms get stapled to the page of the trade involved. Also, any notes like DVD not in stated condition, so I can make an informed decision in the future.

I have similar charts of online orders as well, as it gets a bit much to keep track of after a while!

Thanks for the suggestion re. Canada Post, Movieking. I've filed a lost claims form in the US, but if it's in customs I doubt the US will know about it, or even let me know about it. This may help...

I also received my first bootleg from eBay recently. It's a copy of Lady and the Tramp that actually plays very well, and on first glance even looks pretty good. But close inspection of the bar code shows some bad Xeroxing and mockup in the laserprinting. That and a misplaced logo, etc. I'm supposedly going to be receiving a refund from the guy, who claims to be a legitimate businessman, but I doubt I'll see that money again.

Most of my buying and trading has gone smoothly and been enjoyable. I hope this little bad luck roll has come to an end...it certainly takes the joy out this when there's so much crap to deal with...

Auction deals do exist

You can strike it lucky with auctions...

I recently got Scarface: CE and The Mummy: CMC (1931) off online auction sites - both were reasonably priced, in excellent condition and the real thing (unlike most Scarface's which are DTS bootlegs).

There are bargains about but you have to know them when you see them. Talk about no one wanting to trade away Amelie - I finally managed to get one in part trade for a BTTF Trilogy (sealed) R2/4, and ended up dumped another two BTTF sets on fleaBay after pending trades (here and elsewhere) fell through - at least I got my money back as they were sealed.

changing the subject
is there any way to change the subject line on a forum post from the edit page
or do you just have to post a new thread to change it

I don't think there is a way to change a subject line, unless the whole thread is deleted. I've tried it many times and is a real bummer when you've sold all the titles in the subject line.

Well, as I raise this back from the dead..... thought I lucked out the other night. Found a copy of Sixteen candles for 35.99.. ordered it.. and today get an email from Amazon (used seller wherehouse..as in (wherehousemusic) giving me a refund. Apparently I was a few seconds too late in making the purchase.

Oh well.... I would prefer to have Weird Science anyway.

So, this brings up a question... what is the best "diamond in the rough" that you have been able to score so far? One title, one price.

For me... NOTHING! But there is still time. Maybe I'll find a SALO CC for 5 bucks somewhere. Hee hee.

One final thing, been watching plenty of movies lately.. and while watching Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion... I was reminded of how much I dig the 80's and am thankful for being a part of it. What a great soundtrack!!!

(Where the hell is Bigskillet??? Still suspended???)

Funny you should mention SALO, Bill, because the best "diamond in the rough" I've ever lucked into was getting that venerable title...genuine and in very good condition...for about $18.00 in a used bin at an Entertainment Outlet in Manhattan a couple of years ago. It was already out of print and fetching quite a pretty penny on eBay.

My guess is that is just slipped through the cracks...perhaps a new employee sorting the used discs or something. I couldn't believe my luck...

A different topic: My 5 DVD Kenwood Player is broken! What a pissoff. The worst thing is that 5 of my DVDs are in there, and I may have to send it away for servicing. Two of the Brotherhood of the Wolf extra DVDs are in there, a Friends Season Two, a Larry Sanders Season One, and Swordfish. They won't disc skip, it won't open, the only thing that it will do is play Swordfish. How many times can I see Halle Berry topless? Okay, quite a few, but that is not the point.

(Do not read below if you are squimish)!

And talk about bad luck. We have a doctor's strike where I live. Lineups for the Emergency Room can take up to 18 hours now. So what did I do yesterday? I put a knife through my hand! (Well, almost through my hand...the skin wasn't broken on the other side, but I could see the edge of the knife pressing against it). I was calling my wife on the cell to get her to come home, in case I needed to go to the hospital, but she had her cellphone off. Anyway, since there is a strike, I tried to avoid going to the hospital. I couldn't believe the amount of blood that squirted out. I was able to get it to stop, but then I sneezed, and a geyser shot out of my hand. It literally shot about three feet straight up from my hand. Anyway, after patching it up again, I BBQed two hamburgers, watched Seinfeld and The Simpsons, I finally decided that I was losing too much blood and went to the hospital (after finally getting in touch with the wife). Once they saw all the blood over me, I was able to get in pretty quick, where they gave me a tetnis (spelling?) shot, gave me countless needles on the inside of my cut, and finally stitched me up.

Why is it that things like that always happen during doctors strikes, or long weekends (Thanksgiving weekend here in Canada)?

Is this really a trader's dialogue? For some reason, I had interpreted "dialogue" to equating venting. I read through every single one of these posts and found very few and far between criticisms which this Trade forum needs.

I am a new trader given . . . . so what pisses me off? Those who have a trade list, a want list. You have something they want, they have something you want . . . you make an even 1-on-1 offer and they reject?

Why is this on their want list if they're not wanting to trade it with something on their trade list? Why waste anyone's time?

Just like a guy who had a valuable, rare (*super grin*) Mr. Brown Reservoir Dogs for trade. I had Apocalypse Now for trade (from his want list). I wanted Reservoir Dogs, just like that, it didn't matter which color. I thought it was great that I actually found a want list which had a DVD I had and a DVD I wanted.

He wrote back refusing the trade, claiming he was hoping for a Criterion for the Mr. Brown???? What, he's waiting for a Salo or 400 Blows or what????

I wrote back pointing out that Apocalypse Now was going for $6 more at Deep Discount DVD than Mr. Brown. He wrote back, basically saying that he was keeping his fingers crossed. In other words, hoping he will find someone he can dupe that actually still believes Mr. Brown is so rare.

And who posted that anyone buys from eBay is crazy? My DVD collection says otherwise, I've had so many awesome deals from eBay. Sopranos 1 $50 and Sopranos 2 $50 . . . both SHIPPED. Sex and the City $18 shipped! Etc. Etc.

What's the continuous mention of Best Buy on this thread about?
I can't believe anyone actually buys retail anymore (e.g. Best Buy). I would feel guilty buying anything from them (just throwing money out the window), just today my wife and I were in the store. It was like a trip through DVD purchase memory lane.

"Ha, Ha . . . see this Star Trex Next Generation Season One for $115, we got it for $40 at that used music/video store . . . "

Multiple this story telling by 10 at a general glance walking through the aisles.

Yes, I am Deep Discount DVD and Amazon coupon sucker . . . so what if I have to wait a bit sometimes before receiving something? The money I've saved on purchases online and buying DVDs second-hand, have alone enable me to increase the size of my collection by 50%.

I'm lucky that I don't have this "I've got to have it now, right now" mentality, that would force myself to shell out so much extra money (even if most of these people just end up throwing it up on the shelf and ignoring it for months).

Ahhh, that feels a bit better . . . but to get back to the original subject . . . trading sucks, it always had. And Ever since I was a child trading baseball cards, value/worth is in the eye of the beholder and you can't help it if you're trading with a schmuck who wants 10 '88 Donruss Gregg Jefferies rookies for his 1 '86 Fleer Jose Canseco.

If there's any REAL traders out there, e-mail me . . . please . . . let's work something out . . . .

jarsim

Jarsim it ain't all bad, guy. I've had quite a bit of fun trading here but when someone starts taking it too seriously like hunting for deer then there's a problem. I've dealt with people here like u say that hold out thinking there going to score something better - god knows I 've done it - and I say let sleeping dogs lie. If that's the way they conduct business, so be it. You'll find another copy of the Mr. Brown edition of Reservoir Dogs elsewhere with a lot less hassle, I'm sure.
My only beef which has been touched on before is people that check MSRP's of dvd's and turn down trades because the equivalent trade amount is off by 55 cents. Duh, next trader. Criterion, shmiterions, don't forget, they're not all that if u ask me. Give me a good Anchor Bay release, Image or Rhino release any day, all excellent companies with consistently awesome releases.
Man, I always have to put my 2 cents in, don't I??

Talk about good luck today. I walk into an FYE (3 actually) but the first one I go into, what do I find? Sixteen Candles for 14.99 brand new. Talk about good luck. They had a couple other possible OOP's or Rare dvds, but gotta check to see how rare and what have you first before I go an purchase them.

Oh yea, one more venting on my part.

Goldtraders galore, DEMANDING that sellers ship the DVD first, then will send payment.

DVD x 3.. it is common practice which I do for newbies... many have been burned and any "Joe or Jane" who is new can come to the board and say they have this or that and in the end, they get nothing for their purchase.
