I have to agree about the monotonous trade lists. If I can’t trade something on the board – I take it to the local used shop and sell them off. When I post a new thread I try to include titles that I’ve never offered before, that is if you can wallow through all my BS before and after the list.

One of the funny things that happens to me, and I’m sure other traders, is that invariably I’ll get an e-mail with an interest in one or more of my titles. The author supplies me a list with their FT list and by gum, it’s the same list they sent last week, or last month or last Christmas. It then becomes difficult to find new explanations and be gregarious when turning them down over a course of several encounters.

I want to be positive, but then I also want to say definitively that I am not interested in their 12 be-jillion copies of the complete Sally Struthers collection from Good Times Video.

Gattman,

I can understand the very first trade.. that is somewhat of a given in a lot of cases. But I believe that after that first ONE, you are on your way and should be trusted.

Jay,

I agree with ya! I will admit I am guilty of it... only did it once I think... who am I kidding.. I do it all the time. But seriouesly, do you really think that if you ask me to trade the same movie you have been asking for 10 times, at #11, I am gonna say, what the F, it is such a bother I will just do it and I'll take an Elmo DVD for my problems.

Jay,

I was wondering when you were gonna start that $hit again.. lol. There are some movies there that I like and want.... but it is gonna have to wait until I get my bankroll running to pay the postage. I think I saw atleast 5 of yours that I wanted.

Oh wait... you said you would give me money if I asked... well? Hee hee.. it is documented until it is deleted.

oh come on Bill baby, u haven't had an amazing trade happen?? I have but that was when I first started trading here which was about 4 or 5 months ago, I think. Since then I have been doing more of the opposite, giving back the "ultimate deal" instead because I now have pretty well all the discs that I really want and am only looking for really obscure titles that other's think are shite.
Wait, what a liar I am! I have a huge want list so I don't have all the discs I want yet.
I love a trader with a sense of humor though, anyone that can laugh at themselves as well as at me I will do a deal with in a heartbeat - like bigskillet's posts who I don't know whether to drop my pants for or give all my OOP's to for his scratched up copy of Barney's House dvd. This is opposed to the crusty's (there aren't many thank god) that feel they're hawking used cars, "whine... but I saw that title at my local computer shop on my lunchtime for less than half what u said it was worth...whine, whine."

Hey man, let me know what they are and I'll hold 'em for ya.

Sunday Morning

“bigskill, you are the dvdtalk trader's forum "ladies man"!”

What can I say, I’m gorgeous.

But I digress….

You know what else rubs my rhubarb are the hostile traders. For instance, if you have a title pending or is currently “under negotiation” shall we say and you relay that to a trader who’s interested in said title – they will fire back an e-mail essentially telling you to put up or shut up.

I mean, I love film and I love dvd’s, but sheeeit man, it’s a dvd for cryin’ out loud.

I’ve “lost out” on several titles on the board, but that’s part of the excitement I guess – the hunt. So I get turned down, big deal. The next time I see it up for trade, it’s that rush.

I dunno if that makes sense, but I guess I look at the forum as being fun. Some make the dvd more like product than of passion – ie – something you really love.

why not? If u have an updated list, I would do it if I've been trying to get a title from someone. It's always worth checking the list again, I do the repeat offers quite often if
a) i have more titles to offer and

B) I've forgotten that I already gave the person an offer and he's reposted his list so I can't see if I've already made an offer.

stop this post, damnit, I've got a family that hasn't seen me in 6 hours!

wow, well said.

I'd much rather trade with someone who actually loves and respects film over someone who couldn't care less and is just
in it for the money-- Kind of like some hollywood studios.

Jay,

I will drop you a line in the morning about which DVDS I am interested in. Do you have a list or anything. If so, email me.

It is one thing if you add DVDS and include some of the ones you have been posting. It is those, me, that constantly posts the same thing with a dfferent headline title... sheet.... I am ragging on myself.

Thanks Sunday,

But it’s true. I did something once that I haven’t done since and that is when I was making a trade I asked the person what they liked about the film – why did they get it originally.

I was surprised to read that they hadn’t even seen the film but thought it might be collectable.

My father is big on antiques. Problem is he knows nothing about antiques and greater still he doesn’t have a real “interest” in them. His angle is profit. He has a house full of shite that he doesn’t care for and only endures it because he thinks it will make him a fortune.

I recently got an oop edition of George Romero’s Martin. I had been through four traders over the course of maybe six months or so before I found a down to earth – sane – trader. We traded film that both of us enjoyed. Film that brought back memories, etc, etc.

The trade on a “value” level was lopsided – in my favor. But it didn’t matter to us – we both had something that each other was really into. Our quest was over and we had the exhilaration of the moment.

Now, that to me is trading. Not for value, not for investment, but for love of film.

Now, I have to go write something dirty in my thread.

codefree, you're not gonna believe me, but I slipped The Rock: CC and Brazil: CC between bigskillet's cheekies while he was writing his last email and notice his punctuation was still perfect. Now, that's what we Greeks call a true "sheepherder." baaa baaa baaa.

PS: guys and gals, thanks for the most entertainment I've had on this post since cap't. dallas offered home vid's of him and Osama Bin Laden playing bocci ball at last years' Canadian Garden Show at his post.

Thanks Panayoti.

. If I shine a flashlight back there I create a cornucopia of shinny hues across my well-shaved posterior making me in effect a barebacked beacon.

A beacon of hope and smoldering sensuality.

Oh baby!

(When in doubt - tell an ass joke.)

We have a mail-woman, when i was selling a lot on ebay and buying a lot I would have packages coming and going everyday. Instead of leaving packages by the mailbox (curbside) or wrapping a rubberband around them, attaching the package to the mailbox (i've had this happen) . She will get out of her truck and bring them to the front door. Either she is just a nice person, or is a lesbian and wants to chat my wife up.

I usually take care of her around the holidays by leaving a gift for her, candy etc. Seems to work well.

I always thought if the movie has been on the list through 10 different threads people might be more willing to make a trade on the 11th. I know there are some movies on my thread I would trade for anything i in which I had an interest. I just made a 3:1 trade for a movie I could buy at blockbuster for $10 and I still thought i made out well.

I always re-offer because i cant remember who i offered things to before. The YGM helps but when a new thread is started, i am lost.

Porn Anime - there's porn anime?!!! Where!!??

I don't mind telling you that like many people, I, Bigskillet, enjoy pornographic movies. But I've got a major bone to pick with the actors. It's gotten to the point where you can't watch a porno without being inundated by swearing. I can't tell you how many times I've tried to enjoy a hardcore sex scene, only to have it ruined by the participants screaming, "F– my p–" and, "Oh, yeah, suck my big, hard you-know-what, baby." Is it really necessary to resort to such foul language?

The swearing isn't limited to the lovemaking scenes, either. It's everywhere. If a fellow is playing a hard-boiled private eye sent to investigate a strip club, you'd better believe he's gonna drop a few F-bombs while interrogating the club owner.

Whatever happened to subtlety and innuendo? Back in the old days, people in the movies conveyed their lascivious thoughts with a smile, a wink, or a certain look. If you found yourself bent over a breakfast bar in a see-thru nightie, and a rugged, sweaty electrician walked in, it didn't take a stream of four-letter words to encourage him to make love to you. Just the look in your eyes would tell him, "I bet you have a large ding-dong. Let's see it."

Towbinaj, I've been in the same predicament. I can't remember everyone I've offered a trade. So...

Traders, if I've offered the same trade list more than once, I am sorry. If I have posted when emails were preferred as indicated on the top of the thread, I am sorry. If I took your cake and ate it too, I am sorry. If I kissed your girlfriend or your wife without your permission, I am sorry. If you voted for Gore, I am sorry. I'm sorry a thousand times, a million times, a zillion times. How can I make it up to you? Want some porn? Sorry (again!), I don't have any. Want some candy? Sorry (again!), I don't have any; I hate chocolates. Want some petty cash? Sorry (again!), I can't part with what little money I have.

(Sigh.)

P.S. Sarcasm aside, I really do apologize. I'll try keeping better track of who I offer trades.

P.P.S. Great thread.

P.P.P.S. Sorry, I don't have any funny mailperson stories. (We must be politically correct.)
