^ No, not really. But we have been using this thread for Q&A about CH.com accounts. At this point it is unclear whether or not Columbia House is still accepting CH.com applications.

In general, CH.com isn't as good a deal as cycling through regular DVD club accounts. But it is a lot less hassle.

I've never had a ch.com membership so I'm speaking strictly from conjecture here...

I've always thought you might do better at ch.com if you were primarily interested in box sets since those get free shipping all the time while at the "regular" club free shipping on boxes is very rare. Aren't most sets at ch.com the same (or lower) price than the "regular" club?

yes, CH.com does seem to be really good for sets because of the free shipping. This is the first time I've had a CH.com account and I signed up for it so I could quickly get enrolled and order the Almodovar set.

Often times CH prices for box sets are cheaper than anywhere else. This is meaningless in the regular club (unless you are getting more than one fulfillment out of them) because of their horrid shipping prices on sets, but with the CH.com club, they are often good deals.

I'll probably keep this account open for a long time because there are no director's selections!!! This is I think the biggest plus. No worrying about the monthly titles to decline, so it's the perfect account to keep open in case a really good sale/misprice comes along (i.e. Almodovar set) or in case you want access to ch prices and such but don't have a regular account open at the time.

I know it seems like that, but even with the outrageous shipping charges, the $20-$39 one-fulfillment sets are still actually a better deal through the regular club than ch.com.

This is a valid point, as the convenience and the saved time and effort of applying, waiting for approval, dealing with DSs, etc. are certainly worth something. And I agree having an ative ch.com is a very good idea for the reasons you mentioned.

But let's say you have a fulfilled ch.com account and an open unfulfilled regular club account, and you want, say the Godfather Collection for $32.99...you should order it through the regular club, even though it would appear to be $8 more expensive. This becomes even more true if there's a BOGO deal going or if the set is $40+ but even without those factors, the fulfillment is worth more than the $8 s/h. I hope that makes sense.

^ Each fulfillment credit is "worth" about $16 under standard deals. That more than covers the shipping charge if the price of the set is the same at CH.com and the regular DVD club. Factor in sale offers in the regular club, such as BOGOF, and the regular club is an even better deal.

CH.com is sometimes a better deal for those who choose not to cycle accounts but, rather, buy DVDs above and beyond the required commitment. Even so, a sale offer in the regular club can make for a better deal there.

Also, CH.com is often a better deal for "special" priced items, such as sets, that are priced below $19.95 because they can't be used for fulfillment and can't be used as freebies in BOGOF offers in the regular club. But such titles might be available elsewhere, such as DDD, for less.

Dreamgirls (Two-Disc Showstopper Edition) $20.99

All of the Columbia titles that are $19.98 elsewhere, like The Last Detail and Dead Reckoning, are $9.98.

Another benefit of this club I've just discovered is free shipping on funcash orders. I just ordered 5 titles using my funcash and it came to $0.00.

So far I'm still a fan of Columbia House over CH.com -- For instance, on the Dreamgirls Showstopper Edition. I pre-ordered from Columbia House for $2 more than that deal posted above... BUT I got The Departed 2-disc SE for free when I did that while at the same time fulfilling a commitment title. Plus free shipping on both.

Well, since there's been a lull in my applications for a second Columbia House account, I decided to sign up for ch.com and see what they got. If nothing else, I knocked a couple more WB Two-Disc SE's off my wish list (Bringing Up Baby and Shawshank Redemption) for just under $5 each for joining. The free DVDs were slim pickin's but at least those two were on there!

What is the difference between columbia house and ch.com?

I never did get my welcome to the club email but the DVDs I ordered for enrollment came today.

I am thinking of ordering The Greates American Hero complete series, it's $65.99 and of course shipping is free, columbia house shipping on this is outragous so this is a good deal and it would more than count toward my purchase commitments. This same set is 90 something dollars at DeepDiscount and $76.99 at amazon.com, so it is a very good deal.

I think I am going to like CH.com, but do they have sale codes like columbia house? there is a space to enter codes but I don't know of any right now.

Thanks, since mostly what I want these days is sets this should work for me, I know you can usually get a free one that would make up for the shipping, I have a hard time finding a free one that I want, think I'll just fulfill this commitment plus the 2 I have in regular DVD club and be done with it for a while. I still have my Disney club which I will keep open even after I buy all my purchase requirments.

^FWIW, The Greatest American Hero: The Complete Series 1981 would fulfill your regular club account in one shot. (It is actually worth three fulfillment credits.) If you plan to buy it anyway, that would be the least expensive way to do it, by a wide margin, despite the $7.99 shipping charge.

I want to use it to fulfill my CH.com membership, you have less time to do that one and why pay shipping if you don't have to? Besides, I have been using the codes floating around lately to fulfill my commitments on the regular one, like season 3 of Alf and Happy Feet for $22.94, and that is a very good deal cause I've checked around for prices.

You have three months, and you can fulfill with ANY titles, even the ones for less than $5 (and there are actually several very good DVDs in that range).

Because of what you gain. To expound on lizard's advice, by buying it through a regular account, you have the chance to get seven DVDs for less than $13 (and that total includes the $8 s/h for the boxset).

I know you said you're mainly interested in TV sets, but how can you pass up a deal in which you're getting 7 DVDs (including a Criterion or just released SE) for $1.85 apiece??

That is a very good deal, also, and you have the right idea, but there's no reason why you can't do both.

I'm not trying to talk you out of what you think is best for your situation, but this forum is about optimizing deals, and buying a $65 boxset through ch.com is not optimal. I think a lot of people are thrown off by what seems like exorbitant shipping charges for sets on regular accounts. Yes, they're high, but they come with many benefits.

Well I would get a free one with the regular club, but only one free one and then it boost the shipping up to ten dollars, it just isn't worth it to me, I don't know how you get the deals you are talking about.

BTW, thanks for the tip about any priced title counting toward the CH.com commitment, I didn't know that.
