No I'm not confused, I had orginally talked about getting this DVD set at CH.com in this thread so I just told the outcome of what I did in the same thread.

Am I missing something here? You are stating prices for the CH.com club ("The Ten Commandments") but then you talk about choosing a freebie to go with the GAH set. I've never known CH.com to accept the numerous codes that are posted in the forum such as B1G1.

I am saying that I will get "The Princess Bride" and "The Ten Commandments" to fulfill the CH.com commitment (which I did), once I decided not to get the "Greatest American Hero" through CH.com as I had originally intended, I got it through the regular columbia house account with a B1G1 code. I was just saying that all I needed to do was decide what I wanted the freebie to be (I chose "Lawrence of Arabia").

I'm pretty sure the titles in the $12.95 section are a better deal through ch.com.

Most are currently marked down to $5.19 shipped there (at least on my account), which is lower than we usually average cycling, plus you wouldn't have to "waste" an enrollment selection that you could otherwise use for a $20 title. Factor in the $2 funcash per DVD (and ch.com is better for using FC, as you can accumulate it over the year, plus you get free shipping on FC orders) and it seems like that's clearly the way to go if you were eying any of those titles.

Good way to upgrade to those newer editions of Universal & Paramount comedies (Airplane!, Clueless, Ferris Bueller, The Jerk, Fast Times, Big Lebowski, Animal House, etc.) or pick up other stray titles that might have been marginal buys for you. At least that's what I'm telling myself as I place my second $35 order this weekend. :brickwl2:

^ Back when I fulfilled, one of the titles I picked was the Field of Dreams SE for $5.19 :) That's even cheaper than at Best Buy when it goes on sale for $5.99 + tax + gas money to get there. And I love how titles at any prices count as ch.com fulfillments.

Just remember, fulfillments at CH.com must be purchased within 90 days. It's not the standard 2 or 1 year deal you get at the regular club (depending on what code you enroll with).

^ It's not such a big deal though when it's possible to spend only $10 and completely fulfill the account. At $4.71, Fargo SE would fulfill half your account. It's definitely worth joining IMO.

Is CH.com like the others in that you can have 2 accounts open at once? I never did close out of the one that I have open since you don't have the monthly director's selection to worry about.

^No, CH.com is not like the other clubs in that it is unnecessary to have more than one account. The enrollment selection is very limited, so cycling accounts is pointless.

With CH.com one should have just one account open and then leave it open in case a decent price comes along or you want to make a quick impulse purchase.

I am pretty tempted to open a CH.com account, but was hoping to get some feedback in regard to the "best bang for my buck" 4 titles I should choose. The four being, the 2 free titles (well, $9.95 cause of the one-time fee) and then 2 fulfillment titles. Any good 2-disc sets I should be looking at, or new releases? (I am thinking about Volver and Perfume if they are available as me 2 freebies) Any reccommendations you can make will be appreciated.

EDIT: Just read through the entire thread and have realized that the enrollment selection is limited. Can anyone who has recently signed-up tell me the best of whats offered?

The "best of whats offered" is what you'll enjoy the most. You are the best judge of that.

BambooLounge: In the DVD Talk thread about the upcoming Taxi Driver LE, member "Dr Forrester" said he just joined. You may want to ask him if he remembers any of the titles. He got two of the Bourne Identity movies. When I joined, the Shawshank two-disc SE and Bringing Up Baby two-disc SE were two that I noted as being available at enrollment so I chose those. There were probably about 100 to choose from. A lot of newer release titles were there -- not much in the way of re-releases loaded with extras.

As for your commitment titles, you can't go wrong with multi-disc cheapies like The Field of Dreams SE, American Idol 3-disc set, Top Gun SCE, Apollo 13 CE, or with one-disc SE's like Fargo, The Big Lebowski, Coal Miner's Daughter. All can be had for cheap.
You may also consider some cheap pre-orders like the 2-disc Taxi Driver or Bram Stoker's Dracula at $9.98 each. Some Like It Hot 2-disc is also a steal at $9.98 (though it is an enrollment title at columbiahouse.com).

SFrank...Appreciate the sentiment, but I meant "best" in regard to price. As in if all the titles available are one's I could buy on DeepDiscount for $7, then I wouldn't bother opening an account. But, if there are some interesting 2-disc sets available that are relatively speaking, significantly more expensive elsewhere then I would be more inclined to join, obviously.

^ Go ahead and name some stuff you want and I (or we) will post the prices for you here. Keep in mind, they don't have any 20th Century Fox or Disney/BV/Miramax titles.

Appreciate the offer, but I just went ahead and copied you...got Bringing Up Baby and Shawshank Redemption (good thing the columbia house application with this as an enrolment got cancled). These were the only two titles that I found to either be of interest or not presently in my collection. They also did not indicate if the discs were widescreen or full, which was a little disconcerning.

^The default is usually widescreen so "Shawshank" should be widescreen (and it appears that Columbia House only has the recent 10th anniversary version, which is widescreen, of course). But "Bringing up Baby" is a B&W 1938 movie (Cary Grant, Katharine Hepburn) and has an OAR of 4:3, so it could be considered "fullscreen".

Both are excellent movies and quite popular here at DVD Talk.

Yeah, I am a big fan of Shawshank Redemption myself, but just never got around to purchasing the DVD. I was speaking more to the DVD's I didn't buy since the newer titles are gen. released in both formats (I def. did not word that part of my post properly). But, as always since joining/using this forum, specifically the "DVD Clubs" board you guys have given valuable information/insight that has helped me increase my DVD collection without severley shrinking my wallet. Thanks!

I just got The Pianist and Interview with the Vampire. Are all the titles WS and when do you think I'll get an e-mail so I can start buying movies on there?

^You can get an acceptance e-mail in anywhere from a few hours to a week to not at all. I don't recall whether CH.com sends out acceptance e-mails, but presume that they do. It may take a day or so, after getting the e-mail with the account number, for your account to be activated so that you can enter the website to place an order.

The Pianist and Interview with a Vampire:SE only come in widescreen versions at Columbia House.

When I got my CH.com membership just a few months ago. It took them 30 days to send me my acceptance email.I then received my selections a few days later. Not sure why it took so long in my case.
