Sneaky BMG

As we all know it seems like BMG have implemented a few changes here and there and "slightly' tightened the ship overall, but did anyone else notice this in their new DVD club terms? -

6. Do multi-unit DVDs or box sets count toward my purchase commitment?

In many cases, multi-unit DVD sets count as two or more selections toward your purchase commitment. Here's how it works:

Multi-Unit Set Price Counts As
$19.95 to $49.99 1 Selection
$50.00 to $89.99 2 Selections
$90.00 to $149.99 3 Selections
$150.00 and Higher 4 Selections

Now unless I've missed some mention of this I swear it used to be $39.95 or $39.99 and over counted as 2 selections. I was planning on opening a new account and use the Only Fools and Horses boxsets ($39.99) as 2 commitments now that they are on sale, but I guess not.

That looks like the old table. I just put a 44.95 DVD set in my basket & it's counting as 2 commitments.

Just did the same for "Only Fools & Horses: The Complete Series 1-3" and it too is showing as 2. BTW, it is showing as 50% off MSRP - not bad if you like the show.

Nice catch. It most definitely was $39.95 = 2 fullfillments while CH was running things the last two years or so. I know I wouldn't have caught that if you hadn't posted, since I routinely fullfill my accounts using box sets.

Not to jump off topic, but while we're discussing changes, I thought there used to be a maximum shipping charge of $15 while CH was calling the shots. I was playing around with my cart the other day and I noticed shipping as high as $18+ depending on the combination of disks I had. Has this changed as well, or am I just imagining that there used to be a maximum shipping charge?

The max on S&H was dropped a few months back. Now, there is no max & no preferred S&H discount either on fulfilled accounts.

Are you working with an account that was opened under CH's terms and conditions, or BMG's terms and conditions? My active accounts have been sitting around for a while so both of them were opened while CH was in charge.

Can anyone who has a recent account confirm/deny the pricing policy listed by Sorta?

Wasn't that table never updated to begin with when it was changed to have a 39.95 set count as 2 fulfillments?

Maybe on the website, but I dug up an old mailing that says $39.95.

I think/hope this is just another glitch. My most recent catalog still shows the old table (39.95 counts as 2). And I'm sure they aren't printing two separate catalogs; one for older CH members and one for newer BMG members, so the old price policy is probably still in effect.

As mentioned by joltman above, Columbia House never updated the committment credit information on their website when they changed the levels a couple of years ago. The correct levels can be found inside the back cover of the DVD catalog that comes with an enrollment package. And it can be verified by putting a $40 set in one's cart on an unfulfilled account, as thejester did.

If you get an enrollment package that has a different rate schedule, please let us know. Until we hear otherwise it remains:
The current Columbia House fulfillment credit schedule:
Selections purchased at $19.95 to $39.94 count for one
Selections purchased at $39.95 to $59.94 count for two
Selections purchased at $59.95 to $79.94 count for three
Selections purchased at $79.95 to $99.94 count for four
Selections purchased at $99.95 and higher count for five

I really hope that is correct lizard. Otherwise getting boxsets for fulfillments would be quite less desirable.

While true in most cases - not universally true. On my DVD Club account I still get 99 cent shipping. A few others have posted the same regarding their accounts.

True, but these are isolated cases on accounts which have been open for quite a while. I still get free shipping on 3 or more for life on my account, but if I ever close that account, I'll never get something like that back.

Nice deal basaro! Wish I'd been able to swing that. I;ve had one account open for 3+ years, but they don't give me any special treatment.

It was one of the options they used to offer to keep your account open when you called to cancel your account. It's been quite a while on that one.

Offers like this apparently won't happen anymore as cancelling an account appears to be completely automated now.
I call yesterday to cancel my other account, and I didn't even have to talk to anyone!
Just pressed 5 (other options?), then 5 again(cancel account). Then there was a new automated menu which went something like this:
Press 1 if the customer has moved out of the country.
Press 2 if the customer is a minor.
Press 3 if the customer is deceased.
Press 4 for other options.
So, obviously I press 4 and that's it. An automated voice said my account was cancelled and might take 48 hours to process. That's it, done. Viola!

Hope I can get another account open now
