This comes up regularly, but it may be useful to start a stand alone thread for reference by all. I'll try to maintain this first post to capture the most commonly asked/answered questions about average price per DVD based upon the typical CH deals.

The following shows the average price per DVD based upon the possible combinations of free shipping and either B1G1 or B2G2 offers. In all cases, it is assumed that the fulfillment titles are priced at $19.95 (common for pre-orders) and that the /webdvd website is used to get $5 off the fulfillment order.

When was the last time they had a free shipping offer? I haven't seen any in my emails for the past three months, though I might have missed some posted here on this site.

Yes, the last free shipping code expired in April.

While it is possible that free shipping may not return, given the purchase of Columbia House by BMG, I prefer to believe that there will be more free shipping promotions in the future.

Even without free shipping, the frequent BOGOF codes make for good deals, as can be seen from viking99's numbers above. $5.16 per DVD is a good deal.

especially when you look at how many people are paying between $10 and $15 for the same dvd's even at the DDD 20% off sale

I know. Browsing through those DDD order lists in the bargain forum, I marvel at how many of those titles I've gotten through CH, at incalculably lesser prices.

Although I'm worried I might have become a little too bargain-concsious. You know it's time for a reality check when you see a DVD on someone's DDD order for $16.28, and immediately think to yourself, "What an idiot! I got that at amazon last week for $14.47!"

I've updated the initial post to include the true cost of 29.96, 37.46 and 44.96 box sets for the various scenarios. This should be useful for comparisons with DDD@-20%, Amazon, etc. It's interesting to note that in all cases, a $44.96 set at CH is actually much cheaper than a $37.46 set. That probably won't sit well with the crowd who complains about CH's high shipping and fulfillment prices.

Note: I also reordered the various scenarios into a logical progression of offers vs. the original decending price criteria.
