CH just charged me for two orders I didn't place

I was just checking my bank account and saw two charges filed today on my account for $22.xx and $4x.xx from Columbia House. I haven't ordered for a while (not since the wonderful, It's A Wonderful Life deal of the day mishap) and I always stay on top of my Directors CHoice's. So I Logged in to both of my accounts (Usual club and TV Edition) and sure enough in my order history there's Million Dollar Baby and Dallas, both dated 7/29. I've never received either of these, and never received an order confirmation emai for either of them. Is this a glitch in CH's system, and has it happened to anyone else?

Yes, I noticed a similar problem yesterday. Three of my accounts had been charged for director's selections that I had, without question, previously declined. Of the three, two accounts show that I ordered Million Dollar Baby. The other one shows that I ordered the Miss Congeniality Two Pack. I just got done checking the same three accounts and now two of them are showing that I returned Million Dollar Baby. The other account seems to no longer even show a record of the Miss Congeniality Two Pack order. It appears that CH has caught and corrected their own error (fingers crossed). Just make sure that the charges and credits zero out on your credit card...

Thanks for the reassurance... I'm just glad it didn't happen a couple of days earlier before my paycheck hit

I was also charged for a Monk: Season Three director's selection that I never even had the option to decline on the web page. When I receive the package it will be marked "Refused, Return to Sender, Credit My Account."

This exact same problem happened to my brother and his girlfriend, who have two accounts each. I haven't noticed it happening to me yet, but now that I'm reading this....I'm going to have my brother raise some hell!

I received an order for Million Dollar Baby, apparently on 9/8 (tho the website shows a really funky date instead) - I emailed and CSR said I didn't decline the selection, though I'm sure I did via the website. The package hasn't shown up yet, but if it does, its going back, and I emailed them again.

Same thing happened to me. I logged in on Thursday to find that there was an order for Constantine on my account from 7/29 that was "in process". And I had definitely declined it as my "Director's Selection" way back in July. Anyway, I called CH and the CS said he would cancel the order. Fortunately, it was apparently still in process and hadn't shipped yet, or I would have been ticked off.

There have definitely been some glitches with the changeover of Columbia's new website, and I'm guessing this is one of them. It seems that they likely lost or misprocessed all of the declined DS's on or about 7/29, and so have been automatically processing them as accepted by each member. I'm sure there are a whole lot more people than just us few posting on this forum who had this happen. Probably a lot of them aren't aware of it yet as it just seems to have surfaced within the last week.

Interesting, this happened to me, so it is a site wide glitch. Unfortunately, all of these will have to be marked as REFUSED, RETURN TO SENDER as I have no desire to pay for these unwanted titles (no desire to watch Dallas either )

After reading this thread I checked my account and CH did create an "automatic" order on 07/29/05 for "Million Dollar Baby" and the current status is "awaiting stock".

I'm almost disappointed that after checking I don't have any unauthorized orders. I feel a bit left out.

Just thought I'd pipe in and mention that I received Million Dollar Baby just before I came to this forum, and I was thinking didn't I declline that? Nice to see it happen to others. The worst one right now, though, is that I got a 40.63 charge on my credit card from CH, but then I went to CH to see what it said about it, and it's under Returns dated 9/16 or something like that ?!?!? Hopefully it'll straighten itself out....

Both charges of $27.xx that appeared on my credit cards (each one for an "automatic" purchase of Million Dollar Baby) have now been nullified by credits of the same amount. On each account, Million Dollar Baby now shows as a return. I suspect that the two dvds that I was originally billed for never even left the warehouse.
On a side note, I only think that this is affecting the CH members who had opted to have future purchases automatically charged to their credit cards. The account where it appeared that I was going to automatically receive the Miss Congeniality Two Pack no longer even shows a record of this phantom purchase ever existing anywhere on the Account History page. I must have had "Bill Me" selected as my last payment choice because my credit card was never touched in this case. So, who knows how many other CH members might have been part of this mess and never even realized it because the error was corrected & covered up in a rather timely manner.

Freaky.

The same thing happened to two of my accounts (one DVD club and one TV club). Even weirder is that my e-mails to customer service keep bouncing back.

Hopefully they also correct mine before shipping and refund my card. But either way, I assume with such a system-wide problem, it will be readily fixed. Then again, this is CH we are dealing with...

That's been happening to me for the past couple months. I have a couple open issues that I haven't gotten resolved yet. I'm gonna have to bite the bullet and call

I didn't catch this thread in time :-(
Constantine "ordered" 7/29. Charged my CC and shipped on 9/14. Still no reply to two emails to CH. RETURN TO SENDER here also. If I could only get them to send the titles I ordered (Sting and Hammer Horror) that are still awaiting stock.

I also got Constantine, shipped before I could do anything about it. Luckily, they don't automatically charge my card, so I'll just let the balance sit there until I RETURN TO SENDER.

CSR claimed ignorance when I mentioned that this incorrect shipment is happening to lots of people. Oh well.

It also lists the status as Pending.

Well, checked my credit card today and it was automatically refunded, amazing, but CH actually fixed their own problem!

I also had a charge and refund on my credit card. Someone at Columbia House slipped up on the Director's Selections I guess.

An order appeared on my account a few days ago, dated 7/29/05, for Dallas Season 3.

I sent an e-mail saying that I had not ordered it or ignored a Director's Selection, and asked them to cancel the order ASAP. I got a fairly rude e-mail last night that basically said they would cancel it, even though they didn't have to since it was my fault for failing to decline the Director's Selection.

After that I actually had a tiny inkling of self-doubt, wondering if I had missed the Director's Selection. I'm glad I saw this thread so I know for sure that I'm not the one who is being an asshole.

Although the CSR said he'd cancel the order, it is still listed on the website. How long will the cancellation process take?

Luckily, Dallas Season 3 is "awaiting stock." (Unluckily, so is my order for the Hammer Horror Series.)

Try checking again later this evening. I cancelled my order in the morning and finally noticed the order "erased" from my account around 9:00pm that same day on Monday. When I first called CH and told the CSR I wanted an old Director's Selection order cancelled because I did not request it she blurted out, "Oh, Million Dollar Baby?". Heh, I love CH, I hate CH...

One CSR told me they didn't have the ability to cancel orders.

Wow, glad I read this thread. Didn't even know about this until yesterday when the mail lady left a package for me. I keep all my director's decline emails and don't see one for Million dollar baby. The closest decline to the date (7/29/05) was Constantine.

So I take it CH is aware of this? Hope I don't have any trouble when I send it back.
