I agree, don't think any offer codes work on CH.com accounts (I have one too). Sale offers on those accounts would kind of defeat the purpose: to keep things simple. No shipping charge, one price (usually 40% off list), no DS hassles, etc.

For those willing to wade through the morass of deals in the regular clubs, one can get DVDs for much less than at CH.com.

sotra 08-27-06 11:30 AM

So, lizard, joining ch.com basically is only for free shipping, no DS and the odd good deal here and there? If I understand the deal correctly, when joining you pay a $9.95 fee, get 2 free DVDs and then within a given time (I don't know how long, is it 2 years like the other clubs?) you have to buy 2 more DVDs at 40-60% off. Not a great average then by any stretch of the imagination.

Well, looking back at my emails from when I joined, the deal I got was buy one for $9.95 and get one free with free shipping, then buy one more to fullfill (regardless of price.) Like I said, I think it had membership fee that I've never been charged. I've just held onto this one while cycling through a few accounts because sometimes they had some pretty good deals. In the beginning, they often had the same deal of the day prices as the regular club, only with free shipping, and often back then, the funcash price was the same as the regular sale price, so with free ship, it made funcash actually usefull.

I'm really getting to the point where it's difficult for me to find anything new that I want the CH carries anyway, so if I have to pay a dollar or two more to buy one or two movies rather than open a whole new account, then I'm okay with that.

Thanks

I joined ch.com back in January and my terms were: up front fee of $9.95 entitled me to select 2 DVDs shipped free. I chose Motorcycle Diaries and Shawshank Redemption Anniversary Edition (2 Disc). There was a very limited selection but then I needed to buy 2 more within 90 days at the discounted 40% to 60% off.

There are occasional deals like when I got the newest Ten Commandments edition (3 Disc) for $10 with FREE shipping. That counted towards one of my fulfillments. It is still currently listed at that price.

lizard 08-27-06 01:09 PM

I joined in July of 2005 and, like Xbox69, the offer was two enrollments/two fulfillments that can be any price. I ended up with four DVDs for $25.63 (including sales tax back then). I haven't ever noticed a decent sale since then, but I haven't been paying much attention either.

For me it was as much an experiment as an attempt to find deals.

If you haven't placed this order yet, you can use 808976 to get 10% off your entire order. Not that great, but better than nothing. Code expires on the 30th.

aynrandgirl 08-29-06 01:07 PM

I noticed that the current B1G1 codes (809776 etc) give different prices than the current standard offer. For example, Battlestar Galactica 2.0 is 37.46 under 809776, and 29.96 is the current regular price. That kills the benefit of the code if you're using sets to fulfill.

aynrandgirl 08-29-06 01:09 PM

Oops. I meant 807750, not 809776 (whatever that number is).

lizard 08-30-06 11:36 AM

^Yes, in the case you mentioned, the B1G1F code removes the benefit of the deal, as you say.

Sets have their own sale cycles. If the set you want is on sale in your account, using another code will put it back up to the more usual "special" price, generally 25% off MSRP. Sometimes this can be an advantage, for example when a set on sale drops below $39.95. Having it back up over that will allow it to count for two fulfillments. And sometimes it will be a disadvantage, as you found.

Optimizing Columbia House deals can be tricky. I think the complexity is intentional. But bear in mind that you aren't really supposed to even know about the 807750 code.

lizard 09-01-06 11:42 AM

FWIW (which isn't much), 807646, 807647:

Get DVDs at 50% OFF! No other purchase necessary! Some restrictions apply. Hurry, this offer is available this weekend only! Sets up to 30% Off, No other purchase necessary!

thejester 09-01-06 09:13 PM

Another FWIW code - 808946

TRIPLE Funcash - not too bad for those with a fulfilled account & want to get some $4.95 titles. Rest of code is unlimited (up to) 50% off after Buying 1.

pjten101 09-02-06 08:54 AM

two codes at the same time?

Is it possible to use two codes at the same time on the site? Say a B2G3F along with a free shipping code. If so, what step would I take to enter two codes?

sotra 09-02-06 11:35 AM

Only if one code is permanently on your site when you log in (example the b4g1 code a few weeks ago was combined with the bxgx code to get b2g4).

aynrandgirl 09-03-06 03:01 AM

Do free shipping offer codes usually include sets? I've noticed the benefits of most offer codes don't seem to apply to sets anymore, and since I intend to fulfill my current account with sets I'm wondering if there's any reason to wait considering the current 40% off sale on sets CH is running.

basaro 09-03-06 07:24 AM

^
No, not anymore. Free Shipping has not been working on sets(and all special priced items) lately since BMG has taken over and made changes. There might be a rare occasion when they offer this, but it's yet to be seen, and may not ever happen. Usually CH has a boxset sale near the xmas holiday, and it's possible they might allow free shipping on special items then, but just don't count on it.

lizard 09-06-06 12:45 PM

804723 "Best members only: 10% off entire order."

HTaddiction 09-08-06 10:32 AM

No codes are going through for me. Not sure what the problem is. Is this happening to anyone else?

BTW, this would be my first online purchase. I just recvd my welcome package yesterday.

lizard 09-08-06 11:38 AM

Not all codes work on all accounts. In addition, most of the codes reported on previous pages of this thread have long since expired.

If there are any currently active B1G1F codes, I am not aware of them. If you aren't in a hurry to fulfill your account I would suggest waiting a few weeks to see what turns up.

The 10% off code I mentioned above was supposed to have expired in two days (they often can be used longer than that). It no longer works. Conspiracy theorists might surmise that Columbia House saw the code in this thread and pulled it.

ITALIAN926 09-10-06 09:27 AM

I used the 10% code along with webDVD.... went thru ok at checkout... and was reversed and I received only webdvd on my CC.
Sux.

Ahh that is no good. Hopefully its just a website glitch and not CH actually starting to look at orders with discounts and codes applied to them. Would really be bad to start losing some of the deals we get.

That's happened to me too before. I think it is simply because your fulfillment(s) when used with webdvd takes one of them down to $14.95 if it is a $19.95 title originally and that is the absolute minimum your fulfillment can be. Therefore, no 10% (or 15 and 20% that I used to get back in the day) can be applied to an order with webdvd. I seem to have been told this over the phone also a few years ago.

drh4 09-11-06 03:41 PM

sotra, back in the 2002 era, you were able to get fulfillments to count if the price before a 10% off code was 19.95. I haven't seen one of those in awhile tho.

I just logged into my mom's account and she has a B1G1 offer. In fact, it's been there a couple of weeks now. No FREE shipping though. Pre-ordered "The Break-Up" with "Akeelah and the Bee" as the FREE title. The FREE selection arrived last week.

I remember that actually. Might still work with a higher priced item. Haven't tried though.
