new CH account registration problems?

I applied for a CH account on Monday over the web site. Got a welcome email today (Wednesday) with the new account #. I tried to register and login to the web site using the account #/zip code combination, but it would not recognize it.

I also tried using the link in the welcome email to register (http://www.colu mbiahous e.com/sa/ch/registration/update_user_pass.jsp?user=XXXXXXXXXX). The first time I used it and entered my new desired login, it seemed to go through, but my new login still would not work. I even received a confirmation email that said I had registered online. Afterwards when I try this link and register again, it says I have an invalid account #/zip code combination.

Anyone else experience these issues? In the past when I received a welcome email with the new account #, I had no problem immediately registering on the site. I called CH up and they claim that since my new account was recently created, it would probably take another week to be able to register it on the web site.

Did you manually enter the #, because sometimes cut-and-paste won't work for me. Also, double check and make sure they got the correct zip code. But I've never had that happen.

Same issues for me. Usually I can enter my membership # and zipcode, and get logged in. I was able to set a name and password, by using the link in the email, but it still won't let me log in. It even gives me the correct password hint, when I give my new login name and zipcode, but no access. I'm going to give it a few days, and then call in.

By the way, I applied Monday, got my membership number on Tuesday, and email this morning (Wed) that the dvds are on the way. Nice.

I tried cut/paste and also manually entering the account #, but it didn't make a difference. When I called in, I also verified the zip code they have on file for the new account.

I'm wondering if all this may be related to recent changes going on like the new home page they have.

I posted this in TV Edition thread but since it is along the lines of registration problems with CH I thought I would post it here as well. I have a current account open right now with CH, and for the past week I have been trying to open up a second account. I go to enter in my information, and then hit submit, the same website comes back up, clears the fields and says I need to enter in valid information. I am using a different email address but same mailing address. I have tried under both internet explorer, firefox. I have tried clearing my cache and offline files and cookies and have also tried it under a different computer that I never used CH on before. Anyone know what the problem is?

Hi. I registered on Monday. Got the confirmation on Tuesday and tried to log in once I registered my user name and password and it still hasn't let me in. The customer service people said sometimes there is a delay between registering and being able to log on. They also said it should be ok by the time i receive my dvds. They were shipped today! Hoooray!

I had the same problem, signed up last Thursday, approved Saturday. When i clicked on the link in the welcome e-mail I could login and fulfill my account but I couldn't login using the account no. zip code combo. The website only started recognizing my username and passwd about 3-4 days later. This was after I had fulfilled my account.

I still cannot get in today. They did send me a new email giving me my username and password again. Like I didn't already know what they were. Also:

To all of you who have new accounts and can't log in:

It often takes a few days for Columbia House to set up your account on-line. Just keep trying and you should get in in a few days. This is not an unusual situation.

Edit: If you continue to have this problem, or are in a hurry to place an order, I suggest calling CH and asking to speak to speak to a "web specialist" because you are "having trouble logging-in to your account". The web specialist should be able to verify the problem and can even place the order for you. But it may be that your account just isn't set up yet, as I said above.

DVDsAreMyLIFE, Your problem is usually browser related but since you have nailed down all the possibilities there, your best bet is to call Columbia House and place your new account application by phone.

I gather that you are placing an application for the TV Edition club. What code are you trying to use? Perhaps some won't allow the application to be submitted. Just a wild guess.

Lizard, thanks for these tips. I'll just give it a few days. I'm in no real hurry I guess. I just haven't been signed up with Columbia house in years and was kind of anxious to start browsing around.

I've have the same issue crop up on 2 of my last enrollments.

I get the "unofficial" Welcome email & click on the change user name link. I enter my zip & I'm taken to the account screen. I type over the username/account # with my naming convention, type my current password/zip, new password twice & hint. I save it & I get the confirmation that it has been updated.

Once I logout & try to login via the $5 webdvd link, I get "unknown username" - even tho' I've typed it correctly.

What I learned is that I needed to "re-register" on the $5 webdvd page & I could get in. I didn't even get an error for using the same username I'd just used on the prior username change screen.

Talked to a CSR in "Web Assist" today--this after 3 days of the "kaput" web registration process.

I called CH to ask about this because this has never happened to me before. Not once in some 80 plus (and counting) accounts. Without exception, I have always been able to register directly after receiving a "Welcome to the DVD club!" email (sometimes within minutes of its arrival).

The Web Assist CSR was a girl named Josie. And, at first, she dished up the usual BS --the same stuff some posters above got via email. But after pressing her for a little more info, she finally said, "Well, yes, we have had a number of problems lately which seem to be related to the new web site upgrades."

She also admitted that this "issue" was not normal, and that they had many complaints about it. She added they were working to correct it ASAP.

End of my two cents. Cyas...

Thanks for that hint about using the $5 webdvd site (http://www.columbiahouse.com/webdvd). My login works fine at that site, but not at the regular CH site. For everyone else having problems, I suggest trying the webdvd site.
