Funcash Strategy?
I have previously ignored funcash through 150+ memberships. However, given some recent sales that have included a boatload of FC, I'm sure many of you have accumulated plenty just as I have for redemption this April.
I'm also trying to figure out how to value FC during this double-FC week. If it seems more valuable, I'll do more orders that would normally wait for new enrollments...
There also is no recent thread or FAQ entry I could find even discussing its redemption. (If I missed a discussion buried within another thread, please point me--I only searched titles with "funcash.")
How are you planning to use it? It seems like boxsets are the best bet once one accumulates a ton of it...
Any tricks you all are willing to share? TIA

I've amassed $136 in FunCash in the account I keep open. Most all of this FC was using the B1G1 code during this double fun cash period.
I got 32 DVDs and paid just about $150 for the $136 in FC. I did buy some DVDs I didn't really want, however, getting nearly 1 FC for every dollar spent is a great deal.
I'm definately planning on spending my FC on boxsets (which keep their discounted price and are typically comparably priced with Amazon.com), but I'm not sure exactly which boxsets I am targeting (I've been getting most of my desired boxsets as TV Club enrollments). Depending on how long the FC period lasts, I'd love to get Controversial Classics Collection and The World War II Collection (both due in May) along with another set or two.
Happy times ahead in April.

At the end of last year I accumulated enough funcash that I was able to redeem for the following: LOONEY TUNES GOLDEN COLLECTION 2, NIGHT GALLERY Complete S1, BABYLON 5 1 and 2, and THE PRISONER COMPLETE BOXSET. Despite purchasing many DVDs above and beyond the minimum needed to fulfill a membership, I feel that these sets, which cost me just S&H, along with assorted B1G1 offers, saved me a bundle over CH's nearest competitor, DDD, even at its 20% off sale. The big thing DDD has in its favor is a wider selection, and now that CH is even handling some Criterion titles (a portent of things to come, let us hope!), it is an even better value.
The flip side is, DDD is simple to deal with, while navigating CH, with its numerous website errors, screwy CSRs, etc., is rather frustrating, to put it mildly. Anyway, I am looking forward to redeeming my current batch of funcash for the Monty Python Megaset.

best way that i can see is to transfer all your funcash to a dv2 account which get free ship and forty percent off all orders and then get boxsets that will never EVER go on sale. or get new release boxsets, i will probably get la femme nikita season 2 which will be a new release and not available for enrollment on the ch tv club, even through creative means.

Free shipping never applies to funcash orders, you will always still have to pay for the shipping. As for the 40% off, I know that happened during last year's funcash redemption period.

Single and Double Disc Titles:
$2.99 for first selection
$1.99 each for additional selection
Sets and Multi-Disc Titles:
3 disc selections: $5.99 each
4 disc selections: $6.99 each
5 disc selections: $7.99 each
I believe $7.99 is the maximum shipping charge PER SET and $15 is the maximum shipping charge PER ORDER

I am saving my funcash for boxed sets while CH is having a 40% off boxsets sale. I may have to wait until the Nov/Dec redemption period. I plan on getting Friends Season 9 or 10 and Batman: TAS Vol. 3. Hopefully, a Batman SE box set will be out by the end of the year too.

was this by using the standard forty % off for the dv2 account or was this on a reg ch account during a forty % off sale
i am bummed that the free ship wont apply on funcash orders, even with the dv2 account

Like fryinpan1, if they aren't having a 40% off boxsets sale during the April-May redemption period I'll just wait and try my luck during the November-December redemption period.

Thanks for all the replies.
Mulling this over some more, here's what I'm thinking:
-use funcash during the first period with a 40% off boxsets sale. Since per FC terms, boxset discounts DO apply, but NO others do, that's a logical move. And since it won't expire until the end of 2005, there's no pressing need to use it during the April redemption period, esp since in prev years it was during later periods that the 40% box sale applied.
-use it on movie boxsets, not TV boxsets. Who knows how long the TV club will last this time, but we can be pretty sure that there will be no very expensive MOVIE box sets available for enrollment that way.
-make the FC order as big as possible. The $15 maximum shipping will apply whether one orders 2 or 20 box sets.
-Pick box sets that would be below cutoff thresholds for fulfillment on other memberships. For example, during a 40% off sale, a $28 box set would $16.20: too little to count for a fulfillment. Whereas a $35 box set would, at $20.40, be a better candidate for an fulfillment pick. Also, any set going for well over $60 (after discount) would be a good bet, since no memberships we're targeting require more than three fulfillment titles.
Does all this make sense to you?

If it all gets too complicated be sure to use the old Columbia House fallback position: buy what you want and will enjoy and don't get too wrapped up in the strategies. With CH there is always another wrinkle and complication to consider.
Eventually you will just have to pull the trigger and settle for the fact that you got an excellent deal for your funcash even if you might have been able to buy it from another account using a different deal.
I am in the same boat as you: $116 of funcash (and counting). So, what to get...
