I wasn't planning on buying this. But since all three Matrix films are 19.95 each and thus decent fulfillment titles, this is something I'll have to consider.

hmm.... i thought CH was going to charge retail for it, $79.99, but at $59 that is a good price if it counts towards 3 fulfillments. i was planning on getting this at amazon or another DVD online merchant.

how does the 3 commitement thing works, if you have a 2 fulfillment account. or would u need to sign up for a new account, 3-2 and not take the additional DVD, thus 5 DVDs instead of the 6. and fulfill it that way? can anyone do the math on this? also, this deal would work great if CH has free shipping during this period because of the buy 3 get free shipping deal they usually run. Thanks in advance & thanks for the info. greatly appreciate it!!

It doesn't come out to December 7th, I'll pre-order it with an account that I'll open in late November, no reason to do it now. Thanks for the heads up though!

5 * .49 + 59.95 + 7.99 - 5.00 = $65.39 / 8 = 8.17 per disc

[I don't know if you can preorder this set for $65 anywhere else, but I do know this is the only place where you'll get 5 other discs with it.]

If you count the Animatrix as a movie, then it is

$65.39 / 9 = $7.27 per disc

If you get this during a free shipping promotion and use two 8.95 titles, then you get

5 * .49 + 59.95 + 8.95 + 8.95 -5.00 = $72.85 / 10 = $7.29 per disc.

And if you count the Animatrix, then it is

$72.85 / 11 = $6.62 per disc.

i did a little searching and i know of more than several places where u can get this for under $65. hell, Amazon has it for $56 (w/free shipping) and 1 place that is the cheapest is DVDsoon.com for $50.68 and free shipping. just a heads up for those looking to purchase this set if CH isnt your first choice. i think im going to open a new CH account 2-3 weeks prior to when the UE Matrix Boxset drops. gives me ample time to be approved by CH.

also, thanks evitagen for the calculations!!

Why do you say that this counts as 3 fulfillments? Is it a special CH is running? Usually $50-$89.99 titles count as 2 fulfillments.

59.95+ titles now count as 3 fulfillments. It is a change in policy.

It does count as 3, and also on the site, it said the set includes 10 discs, not 8

When I say disc, I mean film or movie. If I bought Die Hard 1-3, Citizen Kane, Bridge on the River Kwai, Seven, The Good The Bad and the Ugly, and Goodfellas, I would say I got eight discs, not sixteen.

Do they normally maintain the same pre-order price right up till release date, or is there a possibility they will raise it to MSRP?

Actually, for the Matrix set that is not a marked down pre-order price. CH marks their box sets down 25% from list. So that will be the price after release as well. In fact, if you wait for another 40% off box set sale, it will only be $47.97.

Buying during 40% box set sale:

5 * .49 + 14.95 + 47.97 + 7.99 - 5.00 = 68.36 / [9 , 10] = 7.59, 6.84

Assuming a free shipping promotion coincides with the box set sale [which I don't think will happen]:

5 * .49 + 14.95 + 47.97 + 8.95 +8.95 - 5.00 = 78.27 / [ 11 , 12] = 7.11 , 6.52

I like to look at it this way:

The worst case deal would be to get 5 enrollments and use The Matrix box set as the 3 fulfillments, which as explained above would make be $8.17 per disk (assuming The Matrix as three films). I prefer to look at the box set as a whole, so it is $65.39 for 5 movies and the matrix box set. Now, take the the price you would normally pay per disk for an enrollment (lets assume $7.50, but you can choose your own ideal number) and apply that to the 5 enrollments, for a total of $37.50. That means I get The Matrix box set for $27.89 ($65.39 - $37.50)--an excellent price, I think!

Of course, anything you add to this deal (free shipping, buy one get x half off, etc...) will make it that much better.

Any way you slice it, it is an awesome deal. Using your logic, the Rocky Anthology [assuming CH will carry it] would also a great deal [$22.64]. No need to order from Canada on this one.

Yeah, you have to figure that $28 for a 10-disc set is a good price - I don't remember seeing the Alien Quadrilogy for less than ~$60, and it is only 9 discs. True, it is four films - but so is the Matrix set, if you count Animatrix.

Looks like it's time to enroll again

I'm jumping on the matrix deal before ends.

Do you guys think it is worth upgrading if I own all 3 movies already? Is there anything particularly spectacular about the Ultimate Collection? I could always unload the other discs for $8 trade in at BBV...

Costco had it for $39.95 last Christmas, maybe they'll have another big sale this year

I know the 1st one will be remastered. There's probably a thread in DVD Talk that has more details.

I could always unload the other discs for $8 trade in at BBV...
That's what I'm planning to do

Definitely a good plan - using DonliQ's numbers from above, $28 for the boxset - $24 credit for the three trade-ins gives you a net cost of $4 for the extra stuff in the box set. I plan to do that, though I only own the first two.

Even with a more conservative value on the free discs of $6.28 (the price when you fulfill with 3 for $25 and pay shipping), that still puts the price at $10 after trade-in to upgrade.

I guess the same could go for the ROTK gift set, which is going for $59.96 pre-order.

Is this deal legit? I just spoke to a Columbiahouse rep today and she told me that the matrix box set only equals two enrollments. Can someone post the exact link to the updated policy?

Yes please - inquiring minds want to know. The website still says $50- $89.99 for two, but could someone with an unfulfilled account try putting the Matrix collection in their cart and see?
