I got out of it, although they shipped the modem anyway and I have to 'Return to Sender' it within 10 days or be charged. Apparently the only cancellation excuse they'll accept is if you have to leave the country right away for an extended period of time for an emergency. You've been warned...

On a different note, I ordered the Monty Python boxset last week and it shows that it shipped yesterday. Ordered the Brazil Criterion yesterday as well.

I just signed up for AOL Broadband two days ago, I am going to cancel today.. I guess I'll try the same excuse about that I'm leaving the country. Thanks for the info.

blazincaucazn: another thing about the AOL Broadband offer is that if you sign up for their DSL plan, it sounds like they remain on your line for the full 30 days. So if you already have DSL, they might switch you to AOL for 30 days...and if you want DSL through another company but don't have it yet, you can't get it for 30 days. Don't know if that's correct, but it's how I interpreted the info that the less-than-pleasant rep was spewing at about 100 mph once I cancelled. Guess he couldn't get off the phone quick enough...

It's cool, I don't have DSL and don't plan on getting it for awhile anyways. AOL reps are very rude though, I cancelled my dial-up service with them about 2 months ago and they acted like it was just the rudest thing for me to cancel. One thing I did find out though is that if you sign up for the "45 days free" and then call to cancel.. just say that you're a student and you can't afford to pay for it and they will keep giving you 2 free months at a time. This worked for me for about 8 months, and I was never billed for it. I guess it's because they want as many members as possible so that they can be the "#1 online provider".. but hey, it works for me.

Has anyone done BMG on Freedvds.com? I'm thinking (since I don't need the cds) that I can return them for a refund within 10 days, but I'm wondering if there is s/h that won't be refunded to me. Anyone?

Just started sigining up for offers, FitMD and Shopping4Money both charged my cc for a full month service at $39.99 instead of the regular like $2.67. Even in the e-mails for my order confirmation it says that it was a Free Trial Membership. Gotta call in and try to get it fixed

edit: After reading a few posts it seems that this happens to some other people too and it's just a temporary charge, anyone know "how temporary" it is?

I would call them and check on it anyway. They might tell you that they can't find you in their system and to call back in about a week. I just keep bugging them everyday until I get a problem like that fixed.

Actually I had called before and they said it wasn't in there system yet and to call back in like 30 minutes...

edit: Just called, they said it would take a couple of days for it to get reversed. Anyone else do one of these offers in the past couple of days and can tell me how long it took for your payment to get reversed?

This was posted by robochimp in the big freedvds thread, but thought it would be better served over here...

Robochimp's post....

I was bored today so I wrote up a little guide to freevideogames.com for a videogames forum I frequent. Since I know people have been calling for a new FAQ I figured I would post it here. Now it is not an all inclusive guide it only deals with my personal experience with the offers I've done with the gratis sites. Its incomplete but feel free to give your input I'll revise it to reflect evrything we know. I think its a pretty good start at something that is definately needed.

Input and suggestions are welcome
----------------------------------------------------------------

Freevideogames.com

For the most part the offers you sign up for through freevideogames.com require the use of a credit card to pay either a small trial fee or to provide a means of paying a future fee if you don’t cancel the trial.

I suggest you check with your credit card company’s website and see if they offer Virtual numbers. It just makes the whole process safer in case you were to run into any problems. If your credit card doesn’t offer virtual numbers and you have a mastercard you can get a webcertificate from www.webcertificate.com just get a 20.00 dollar web certificate its all you should need. There is a 3.95 fee for the certificate.

Don’t use a main email address make a yahoo or hotmail address some of the low point offers you sign up for will send you spam.

Write everything down dates you signed up, phone numbers to cancel, membership numbers and so on. Keep track of it all so you don’t forget to cancel.

You are doing all of this at your own risk. This guide is for you guys to get the most out of this and to do it safely

Offers to sign up for

TV Hits Columbia House - 600 points cost 2.99
Columbia House can be a pain in the ass with joining and having to buy more in the future. This one is different you order TV shows on DVDs and then they’ll automaticly send you more unless you cancel. So here you get your choice of DVD for $2.99. the DVD I got was Mystery Science theatre it was just one of the single episode Rhino DVDs After you’ve received the DVD you’ll have your membership number on your invoice just call and cancel.

AOL 45 day trial – 600 points cost Free
This one is simple just sign up for a free trial of AOL and cancel within your 45 days. When you try and cancel they’ll offer you another 2 months of AOL for free.

AOL for Broadband trial – 750 points cost Free
I haven’t personally done this one but its probably the same as the regular AOL trial

NYtimes – 600 points cost Free
With this one just sign up for delivery of the Sunday New York times and set it for a future delivery date a few weeks from when you sign up. Once you have the points just call up and cancel the subscription. A friend of mine did the put a future date for delivery and they still delivered it the Sunday after he signed up so cancel as soon as you get the points

The Following offers are all through a company called DealPass. They offer a service where you can buy giftcards to various stores for 20% off. You are signing up for a 30 day trial the trial costs $1.00. As a bonus they offer you a free gift which range from a 25 dollar Amazon gift certificate to a Monster Inc DVD. When you get your membership info in an email log in to DealPass.com with it and you have to request that they send you a claim form for your free gift. When you get the claim form fill it out and mail it back ASAP they need to process it while you’re still a member so you’ll get points and whatever bonus the particular site offers. For some reason people haven’t been getting their confirmation emails in a timely manner if you do not get yours the same day go to Dealpass.com and look at the bottom of the page and select contact us

List of DealPass offers(you can sign up for them all)

These are all instant points so for freevideogames.com to keep track they use cookies so lower your privacy settings to accept all cookies while you are doing these

Ebay – 120 points cost Free
Just sign up for Ebay and place one bid. You need to use an email address from an Internet Provider otherwise you have to provide Credit Card info. Don’t worry if it’s a different address from what you signed up for Freevideogames.com with you’ll get credit. Bid on a big ticket item that is still cheap in bids to guarantee you wont win the auction you bid on.

Small point offers 20-60 points cost SPAM
These are all pretty straightforward and they only want an email address to spam up

Now the following offers are ones you need to be careful about. Scrutinize every step of the sign up. Signing up for a 30 day membership at 39.95 is set to default. Make sure you click on the 1(3) day trial. Some also have check boxes marked to sign up for 39.95 memberships to one of the other sites listed below they’re all related to each other. These are the sites you definitely want web certificates or virtual credit card numbers for. Also when enter your credit card number it will process and bring up a screen that says something along the lines of “Success click the button for the final step and your bonus membership” DO NOT CLICK THAT just close the window and a new one will pop up confirming the membership.

PsychicRealm – 500 points cost 2.95
This is a 3 day trial, wait an hour after signing up and go to www.billingsupport.com to cancel

Psychics4free – 500 points cost 1.00

This is a 1 day trial, wait an hour after signing up and go to www.accusupport.com to cancel

ving4Dollars – 500 points cost 2.95
This is a 1 day, trial wait an hour and then cancel. I am not sure which site you have to go to, to cancel I just read they use www.BillingSupport.com now but they used to use www.accuspport.com .

Offers I have not personally done

Mp3Stealth – 220 points cost ???
This site is related to the Shopping4 money and psychic sites that you have to be careful with

SuperBook – 1500 points cost 45.00 refundable deposit
This is a gambling site and you need to deposit 45 dollars place a small bet and you get the points. You can then cash out. They send you a cahiers check like a month later.

SportingBet USA – 1400 points cost deposit of 25.00
This is a gambling site and you need to deposit 25 dollars place a small bet and you get the points. You can then cash out. They send you a cahiers check like a month later.

CasinoONNet – 1600 points cost ???
It doesn’t specify an amount in the description but I assume it is just like the two previous gambling sites

Coral Calcium- 400 points cost 2.99
You are paying shipping on a 30 day supply of Coral Calcium. This one is supposed to be nice and easy because you can cancel it online. If you don’t cancel they keep on sending you coral calcium which you have to pay for.

DO NOT SIGN UP FOR THE CREDIT CARD OFFERS UNLESS YOU REALLY NEED THE CARD. APPLYING FOR CREDIT CARDS WETHER YOU”RE TURNED DOWN OR APPROVED AFFECTS YOUR CREDIT SCORE. JUST STAY AWAY FROM THE CREDIT CARDS.

That is about it. If you have any questions feel free to PM me or post in this thread

Yeah, that was lots of great info. Lately, I've been keeping all my deal records on scraps of paper...obviously confusing and inefficient. I'm working on a spreadsheet for keeping track of all the important info for my deals. I looked at the one on the 'main' free dvd faq page, but found that it was so large that it ran onto 2-3 pages. Also, some of the info was out-of-date/unnecessary. Mine won't have any info entered already, but it will be neatly laid out with all the categories that I personally feel are necessary...and it fits on 1 sheet printed landscape. Since it doesn't have the deals entered already, it should work with all the different free dvd websites. It'll probably be a MS Word file so those who don't have Excel shouldn't have a problem using Word or possibly Wordpad. If anyone is interested, I'll post it on my website for others to download.

blazincaucazn: sure. I'll post the link sometime later this week. It's really helped me to stay organized. My main focus was to be able to limit it to 1 sheet and still have room to write. I'll also be glad to accept suggestions to help fine-tune it once people have had a chance to use it.

The casino offers are very easy, particularly casino-on-net. Before signing up, make sure you sign up for an account at neteller.com The site is very secure and I've never had a problem with it. In fact, after registering my bank account and doing an instant withdraw (they charge like $4.00 for a $45.00 withdraw), I got a phone call from their offices verifying that I was in fact who I said I was. They asked me some security questions and then reenabled my account. Supposedly, they do this to everyone.

Anyways, after getting situated with neteller, sign up for Casino-On-Net and deposit your money via neteller. It'll take a few minutes for the funds to transfer. I'd suggest playing a few hands of $1 blackjack or something before withdrawing your funds back to neteller. It will take about a week for your funds to transfer back to neteller...and about another week for you to get credit for the points.

It may take a while to get the poitns, but you definitely get a lot.

Are the other gambling and betting sites the same? Are there any that you wouldn't recommend me trying?

Doing the gambling sites at freedvd4me.com is (in my opinion) better than elsewhere. Particularly, superbook, players only, etc...because freedvd4me.com doesn't require you to make a bet and they really don't set a minimum deposit amount (it's $45 at freedvds.com).
