Black Friday 2018

That special time for collectors has come once again.
The time when we flock to our favorite stores looking to complete, get current or exposed to something new - at prices which won't hurt are collective wallets. And to give as Christmas presents and 2019 birthday gifts.
Another year, another HUNT. And this year we have all been touched by CaptainGibb, a Redditor who gave us all a nice gift...
He posted Target's BF movie pages this afternoon.
Good hunt my friends...

I have a big a$$ smile. Not only for having this data so early, but for finally completing a quest; over a decade in the seeking (off and on). Always at prices I wasn't willing to pay, until last month.
Bought off Ebay for four bucks - free shipping, used. For that price I was okay with having to mail it off, the discs resurfaced - still a bargin. But last night when I checked location status, a thought popped in my head, a 'what if'.
Sometimes Used doesn't mean the release itself, but the case; as in not listed as 'Like New'.
The package arrived. And my hopes turned into reality. Yes. Yes it is.
The case is messed up, but the wraparound and booklet are excellent. And the discs are MINT. I have moved them into a new, superior transparent case.

Thirteen years later, I now own "Star Maidens" the complete collection. This is a United Kingdom release, region 0. It has gotten a newer re-release, but the cover art is crap on a cracker. And I don't think it come with the thick booklet.
Very happy... just one problem.
This as a U.K. release and I'm here in Southern California with no way to play a PAL title. But that's okay. The biggest hurdle was getting the DVD. It's mine. And just as I hoped.
Now I need to get "Adam Adamant Lives!" the complete series, another U.K. title.
"Star Maidens" has a U.S. release, but it's a bootleg, masquerading as a real DVD and the bonus didn't carry over.
Oh well. One step at at time. And I have the out of print 1999 CD soundtrack.
It's been a good day.

Received a Big Lots email today promoting a preview of their Thanksgiving ad. Showed a small picture of a few random DVDs at $1.88 & $2.88. In other words, the same thing they've had the last few years.

Target is supposed to have a few UHDs for sale on Black Friday.
I felt Walmart last year was very lackluster for media items. Everyone is waiting to see if Best Buy, which has moved more and more away from physical media in the past few months, will have a big selection for Black Friday.

I just bought the Criterion Bergman blu-ray box. That's going to be more than half of my BF (& birthday) spending, due to finances. Also bought a new Jimi Hendrix cd/blu ray box.

Guess it's time to compile my wish/seek list. Today is the 8th and the major stores have unloaded their BF ads. Feels rather sooner than last year.
Good hunting friends.
By the way, $15.00 for a five quart crockpot. Last year was ten dollars for a 4qt model. Looks like I'm upgrading.

Re: Black Friday 2018
Big Lots set out their Black Friday display bin early in Buffalo. I think I was the first to raid them anyways, it was pretty full. Everything was either $1.88 or $2.88.
http://i63.tinypic.com/9axmxt.jpg
They had the other, pricer display bin out too, which had better movies and a lot of tv series. Everything was $10. I'll wait for actual Black Friday for those. From what I could remember, there was Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Thor: Ragnarok, one of the Avengers (most liked the new one). Tv shows included Ray Donovan, Californication, Good Wife, Dexter and a bunch more.

Thanks for the info ClintFunHome. By the way, which version of "Bounty Killer" is it? There are two, one of them has extras.

I went back to pick up Jurassic Park: Fallen Kingdom and Star Wars: Last Jedi and they were gone, oh well. They had one copy of Thor: Ragnorak left.
I picked up a few more, either I didn't see them or they just put them out.

Yeah my store had its BF titles out.
Not much I wanted. Only took home one, which is what I wanted, "Haunted: The Complete Series" for $1.88. Can take out Big Lots! from my Black Friday interest.
I did see the display at Target already out. Not sure what to make of it. Seem too pricey.

Re: Black Friday 2018
I used to shop there way more than Best Buy.
If they had never gone after me, this site and CAG for releasing the Playstation price drop, they'd still be in business and I'd still be shopping there.
Although DIVX also played a role in their demise..... among other things.

Oh man.
You know, my collection owes a lot to you - your weekly listings.
It was a golden time. So many solid deals and titles.
Anyhow, another part of their demise was ditching their knowledgeable staff for low paid newbies who didn't care. But the final nail was deciding to focus their attention on the stuff that wasn't selling, appliances. Taking the spot light off media which was their bread and butter.
Hey, remember when Anchor Bay had so many special editions, now a memory.
That crown is worn by Kino and Shout Factory.

Just curious John, are you still standard definition, DVD and old school 4:3 TVs?
I only see you post and talk DVDs, never BDs. HDTV's and BD players are so dirt cheap right now.
