WTK I was wondering is you had an opinion about importing merchandise with the websites CDJapan and amiami?
For like a figure that costs over $100

Not WTK, but the main thing will be costs to ship and the value of the Yen.

I've ordered from amiami a ton, and they've gotten a lot better. The pro is that they will generally have a cheaper price for most figures, but it's a pain to try to estimate shipping, and they won't quote you a total until it's time to ship. You can ship all items that come in in a single month at one time, though. They really pad the packing, which is a good thing but can result in increased costs. Their cheaper prices means that for a lot of in demand items, they sell out quickly and/or their website crashes when they put popular stuff up. You cannot cancel an item once you've preordered it. Well, you can, but then you have to contact them to cancel and if you do it too much they could ban you.

cdjapan is usually on the more expensive side of things as far as base price.

HLJ is in between as far as prices, but it's easier to calculate shipping and I've used them a ton as well.

The more common figures are actually brought over here directly and actually solicited to comic dealers via Diamond, usually by BlueFin, so you might want to check stores like BigBadToyStore, thetoysource, Midtown Comics, and even Amazon to see what the domestic price is, sometimes it's either comparable or cheaper when you factor in shipping costs.

I have been looking at CDJapan at a figure its about 700 yen cheaper then amiami and its sold out at HLJ, airmail costs about $28 if thats a good way to ship? My main concern is actually geting what I ordered and the box not crushed.

I'm pretty sure Registered airmail is insured but I'd double check the FAQ if I were you (can take a while, though, if you're impatient EMS is pricey but fast). It's not some fly by night operation so they should have decent support, though opinions online seem to vary on that. If it's a figure that seems prone to breaking during shipping, ask in one of the more dedicated anime figure forums, just to be doubly sure.

It says EMS shipping costs $29.89 i just never really heard of it before. The figure is still on pre-order but the cut off date was in the fall, cdjapan says they have one left to sell of what they ordered.

EDIT: both Amiami and CDJapan for that figure says "JAPAN SALE ONLY" so I looked at BigBadToyStore and I can get it for about $15 more on the total price. Reviews looks good for the store plus Phat company lists it as a international distributor. I already ordered it.
