Initially the show featured the characters from the film. I don't remember all the details but I believe after the first season they brought in new charterers.

Per Wikipedia

Naked City first aired in the 1958-1959 season, with the title The Naked City, as a half-hour series starring James Franciscus and John McIntire playing, respectively, Detective Jimmy Halloran and Lt. Dan Muldoon — the same characters as in the 1948 film. While critically acclaimed, the series did not garner high ratings. Midway through the season, McIntire quit the show because of his desire to leave New York and move back to his Montana ranch.

There are spoilers after the above quote .

I have never seen the half hour episodes but I would be surprised if they have the same feel as the 96 minute movie. My reference was to the hour episodes begining in Season 2.

Price matched by Amazon.. has the RRP dropped, or is there mass confusion, or is everyone being nice..?

Gives some of you a chance to order through them. DVDplanet still has it for over 100 and at bn.com it is 174. It still appears to be a misprice.

http://www.image-entertainment.com/p...5-020045490004

it is 179 at Image entertainment's own website.

Does Amazon have any better track record for "mistaken" pricing? I still can't believe this price is real (probably just an automatic price-matching thing Amazon does).

Brainee, imagine you are right....
Still looks like a better deal via Walmart, as I see free shipping there.
In case you missed the news(I sure had) Amazon has jacked up the price you have to pay for an item(s) to $35.00 before you get free shipping! Add that to the $3.99 shipping charge for anything you buy from a re-seller, and other things going on right now with them(Can't sell some brand new, authentic DVD shows because, well, they won't let me sell them , only the mega resellers can do it for some shows) and I am quite pissed at them right now.

What's funny is Amazon will have to lower everyone who has ordered it to this price. They have the price guarantee for preorders.

+1.

They will smile at you and then stab you in the back. They are just too damn big -- and now they are pushing their weight around.

I don't think it is an error by Amazon. I would assume someone called customer service and asked for a price match. I assumed Walmart was a pricing error but it has not been corrected nor has the listing changed to out of stock which usually happens with Walmart pricing errors. Perhaps we just found a good deal.

I can't recall a pricing error being price matched by another retailer except on an individual basis where someone would take an ad to Best Buy or Target and convince a clerk to honor a price.

Just placed my order for it with amazon to be sent to me in the UK. Total price just over £20. Absolute bargain, assuming that it gets here...

I decided to cancel my Walmart order and go with Amazon since I think they will honor the price even if it is a mistake, although they are not as reliable and consumer friendly as they once were. It's a crapshoot at this point, but I'm putting my faith in Amazon's traditionally good customer service should this price need backup. We'll see.

Amazon has been automatically pricematching some items near end of preorder from Walmart. Ive seen it on assorted obscure items that I have followed. They also closely track many books from bn.com.

What in the hell is Amazon thinking? I can understand Walmart doing something stupid, but for another retailer to blindly follow suit? Goofy. Naturally I ordered from Amazon, they will honor it.

You could also just keep the WM order and return it if both ship. It's easy to return to WM. That way you are covered in both cases.

I ordered from both...and if they both ship I'll either sell one or use it for a Christmas present! Covered as mentioned!:D

I think that's what I'm going to do. With Prime, I'll get it on release day (although that's not super important). It also might save me the tax. Amazon starts charging tax on November 1 for Massachusetts, so if I preorder it today, I shouldn't get charged tax, right?

In California, preorders ordered before, but released after they started collecting tax were taxed.

I tend to agree. This is the company, after all, that can't even keep their parking lots free of shopping carts after 10 pm (at least locally). IMHO somebody directly involved in media buying wouldn't have made such a blunder, which perhaps points a finger at some data entry person.

Or on the other hand, maybe they are being nice?

Re: Naked City Complete Series 25.48 plus ship at walmart.com

I don't think they are being nice. Walmart is one of the biggest bottom line corporations out there. The mistake seems similar to the mistake on the complete BD weeds set. They seem to have some preliminary listings and in this case they never fixed it. The Weeds set must have been more popular and sold better which caused them to fix it faster.

It's a great idea, but I don't have a Walmart near me, they are scarce in the Los Angeles area. So then I would have to pay for return shipping if I wound up with two sets. I just hope Amazon will honor it.

While Walmart is still at $25, Amazon made the correction and is back to $100.

Re: Naked City Complete Series 25.48 plus ship at walmart.com

^And I'm not holding my breath about them honoring the lower price. They had a "price mistake" a few years ago with a B1G1 sale and back-charged everyone who ordered *after* shipments went out. You either paid the "new, correct" price or shipped everything back unopened.

Just made it in under the wire, ordered it last night from Amazon. I was already putting in an order for another dvd set and needed something to push it over the free shipping threshold. Now Amazon better honor it!
