Re: AMAZON: Official SD Bargains Thread
Amazon Warehouse Deals (which is not exactly the same as regular Amazon) has had some great deals on what they claim to be New DVD's. Here are some examples:
On the Road With Charles Kuralt: Set 2 (2010) $3.40 http://www.amazon.com/On-Road-With-C...I3K8355M3Y8F7Y The All-New Super Friends Hour: Season One, Vol. 2 (1977) $3.47 http://www.amazon.com/The-All-New-Su...xgy_mov_text_z Super Friends!: Season One, Vol. Two (2010) $4.04 http://www.amazon.com/Super-Friends-...I1T2WV45FIQ3CA Challenge of the Super Friends - The First Season $3.48 http://www.amazon.com/Challenge-Supe...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Plastic Man: The Complete Collection (2009) $3.57 http://www.amazon.com/Plastic-Man-Th...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Voltron - Defender of the Universe - Collection Two (1986) $3.32 http://www.amazon.com/Voltron-Defend...ywords=voltron Voltron - Defender of the Universe - Collection Three (1984) $6.11 http://www.amazon.com/Voltron-Defend...K/ref=pd_cp__0 Voltron: Defender of the Universe, Vol. 4 (Tin Case) $3.89 http://www.amazon.com/Voltron-Defend...A2L77EE7U53NWQ Voltron, Vol. 5: Defender of the Universe-Black Lion (2008) $3.30 http://www.amazon.com/Voltron-Vol-De...ywords=voltron |
Re: AMAZON: Official SD Bargains Thread
Wow. I never picked up those Voltron sets beyond Volume 1. Thanks. Time to complete that set.

Re: AMAZON: Official SD Bargains Thread
I found a few Amazon Warehouse deals as well:
Crossing Jordan: Season 1 ($5.48) http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0013DZNAA Drawn Together - The Complete Series ($12.90) http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001G0MFFG Magilla Gorilla - The Complete Series ($4.04) http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000FI9OEK Popeye the Sailor: 1938-1940, Vol. 2 ($4.35) http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0014VPFHW |
Re: AMAZON: Official SD Bargains Thread
Rexxriot, thanks for posting those. I hardly look in this thread, but I was excited to see the Popeye V2 and Magilla Gorilla which I never managed to find for $3 each at Big Lots long ago. I also threw in Crossing Jordan S1 (reviews were OK though I've never heard of it before) and an item no stores sell around here to hit the dread $25 for free shipping. Those items worked out as good fillers, though I paid $2 more for that 1 special item to be eligible for super saver shipping. I hate having to find $25 every time I want to order something, but I order so rarely from Amazon it would be worse to pay for Prime than overpaying a couple dollars for an item every couple months. I order $25 from Amazon at best once every 2 months.
I looked at a couple Youtube clips of Voltron (never saw it as a child) and it looked way to cheap to be my kind of thing. I used to like Speed Racer when I was a kid, but when I tried watching a random episode as an adult I couldn't last 5 minutes. I expect Voltron would be similar. Now to ask a dumb question... Amazon Warehouse stuff is sold by a part of Amazon and should be brand new product, right?I don't see any words anywhere to indicate it's used, but who knows... Also, how do you find out about these things? Is there a way to search for new good deals on TV sets through Amazon Warehouse or do you just browse randomly and post things? EDIT: Bummed to read after I ordered that Magilla Gorilla has butchered episodes, but what are you gonna do. I guess Warner never made a replacement set. |

Those sets linked to are all "new". A pertinent excerpt: If an item is being sold as "new" on Amazon Warehouse Deals, this means that the item has never been removed from the packaging but the packaging has superficial damage.

Just keep a few items in your cart that can be used for "filler" or just a few things you would like but don't want to order specifically. That way when you see a deal and need a few $$ to get to the magic "free" shipping number you have some stuff from which to chose. I keep a few dozen items of all prices in my cart "just in case".
It depends... Here's the page that tells you all about the Amazon Warehouse. Those sets linked to are all "new". A pertinent excerpt: I don't know about Rexxriot but there's this: Amazon Warehouse Deals Storefront |
Re: AMAZON: Official SD Bargains Thread
I was just searching through Amazon Warehouse Deals, trying to use certain key terms, like "complete" or "season" if I was looking for TV shows. You'll get a lot of random crap, so it takes a while to search through it. Of course, you could go way more specific, but you may not stumble across something cool.

Re: AMAZON: Official SD Bargains Thread
I also greatly appreciate the deals posted by Strapped and Rexx.
A NEW item from Amazon Warehouse should be ok, but be warned about USED items from Amazon Warehouse as they can be in worse shape than listed and each and every item that comes from the Warehouse entity bears a horrible sticker on the back that often can't be removed without leaving obtrusive residue. Amazon once told me that the Warehouse is just like the Amazon Marketplace for outside sellers, only in this case they have dropped off mostly mass quantities of an item for Amazon to sell on their behalf. I always thought it was Amazon's clearance section and that they were listing their own items, but who knows? |
Re: AMAZON: Official SD Bargains Thread
New may have a slashed UPC, apparently. Today, I received SilverHawks vol 1 which I ordered from Amazon Warehouse Deals as New, but the UPC was slashed. It was deep enough that it could have cut the flipper disc 4, but it looks fine. It would not surprised me if some of the other Warner Bros DVDs have slashed UPCs.

Re: AMAZON: Official SD Bargains Thread
You're welcome to jdpatri & ProfessorEcho and anyone else who found my links helpful, I'm very glad that those links were useful.
As to finding deals, I have about 350 DVD's and a few Blu's in my various Wish Lists (it used to be a lot more). I find the Wish Lists very helpful in quickly scanning prices, especially as I can use the comment feature to list the lowest ever price. And I don't have to add or remove items from my cart. Recently I've seen a lot more entries from Warehouse Deals, and I've explored their storefront a bit too, though all of them aren't exactly what I'd call "deals". Married... with Children: The Complete Series $32.19 is an okay price, but it's semi-regularly sold by BB for $29.99. http://www.amazon.com/Married-Childr...I36ACL1IHO3EL0 Rome: The Complete Series $38.60 is pretty good, but Amazon proper has had it for less. http://www.amazon.com/Rome-Complete-...=IEQRUPGCVRI6P Breakout Kings: The Complete First Season (2012) at $19.28 is more than I've often seen that title sell for and almost double the lowest price I've seen for it. http://www.amazon.com/Breakout-Kings...I201J4PAXK43NW For the Voltron fans, I saw a few other DVD's being sold at great to good prices, a couple of the vehicle volumes and a couple more that I'm not familiar with. A simple search for Voltron in Movies & TV will bring up these other entries. |

Re: AMAZON: Official SD Bargains Thread
Amazon currently has a number of Warner Archive Westerns on sale at $9.51. These include some of the more popular titles like The Hanging Tree and Yellowstone Kelly, which are among the more expensive when you order them off the Warner site.
It's not an across-the-board sale; there's only a few titles included. There's other titles besides Westerns on sale as well, so this is definitely a case of YMMV. |
Re: AMAZON: Official SD Bargains Thread
Thanks, Silverscreenvid. In for The Hanging Tree, based on the strength of the same director's 3:10 to Yuma.
