Their shipping fees kinda kill it.

I agree they are ridiculous. Works good for newer used titles though.

What is the distinction between used and previously viewed?

Used = formerly purchased retail and personally sold to goHasings.
Previously Viewed = formerly rented by goHasings.

While there is a distinction between Used and Previously Viewed dvd's, there's been quite a few times where I ordered a "used" dvd but was sent a rental. The rental discs had a white sticker placed around the ring of the actual dvd that said Hastings Rental or something similar to that. So, just a heads up, the person who fills your order might not care enough to distinguish them.

Is it possible somebody bought a previously viewed DVD from Hastings and sold it back to them?

You can also get a former Blockbuster or other retailer's previous rental as a used copy. Customer buys it used from Blockbuster and resells it to Hastings. I've received a few with the Blockbuster case.

Possibly, there's really no way to really know.

This is what happens at Hastings all the time, unfortunately. And of course some rental copies these days don't come with extras and stuff, so it makes a difference.

I'd email and complain if it matters to you, since they should (but don't) treat traded in rental copies as a different SKU than traded in retail copies, in addition to having another separate SKU for their own rental copies they sell.

There is also no discernible difference between the two as far as condition. I've received both and they were equally scratched.

Re: 30% off used DVDs at gohastings

For some reason, even if it said used, not previously viewed, some titles still didn't get a discount. So I called their customer service number and found out only some used items qualify and you can find out which ones qualify, but the list is super long.

Several titles on my Wish List were not eligible for the discount and shipping charges killed the ones that were. A typical Hastings waste of time for me.
