Yes to both.

Re: Borders Liquidation

stopped by today and they said the percentage had just changed (and that it would not change again -- but I don't really believe that). Anyway they posted discounts of 70% off for Blu-rays and DVDs. Maybe they just didn't get the new signage up -- because I never tried to scan anything at the register -- so may BD's were really 80% off.

The Borders in Clear Lake in Houston had very, very few DVDs or Blu-rays. Even the high priced blu-ray sets that I was anticipating getting were gone --- even at 70% off, they were good enough deals but not great -- -but I think they actually sold at 60% off.

Anyway I won't be bothering going back.

Re: Borders Liquidation

I wandered in on my lunch break and came across a copy of the Samuel Fuller Collection. The slipcover is a little mangled from that stupid anti-theft web thing, but at $24, I couldn't refuse. Amazon's got it for $50, so it triggered my "Why not?" reflex. Good stuff so far.

Re: Borders Liquidation

Went to the Ward Center one in Oahu. Not much left there. So I walked out of there empty handed. The only thing of interest still left there was a Criterion eclipse set--Silent Naruse. It was marked at 70% off with an additional 15% off.

So if any Oahu DVD talkers are interested in that go for it. I think it'll end up as $11.48 + tax.

Re: Borders Liquidation

I went to Windward Mall in Kaneohe last night, and there wasn't doodly squat worth buying there. I'd hoped to luck into something as great as my Fawlty Towers ("Warty Towels") find last week but no such luck. I saw the Silent Naruse set at Ward Centre on Tuesday, but refrained from getting it because I don't know anything about Naruse or any of his films.

During the last wave, the last 3 days were everything at 90%. It is possible that this is a different liquidator, but............

Cool, that means I could get a Blu of X-mas fireplace for $0.90 if that happens.

Re: Borders Liquidation

I stopped by my Borders yesterday evening and picked up a couple things.

Ken Burns National Parks on Blu for $26
World War II 360 (History Chan show) on Blu for $16
Ken Burns 10th inning on DVD for $5

They still had a good amount of Blu Ray left in their locked cases so might go by again tomorrow if I am going that way. But other than that there seemed to be a ton of Twilight DVDs and other random stuff I had never heard of. They did have a lot of copies of Cloverfield left on DVD that if it got to 80 or 90% off those I might pick it up.

I did hear an employee there tell someone that they might get stuff from a couple surrounding stores tomorrow or Sunday since it is going to be the last Borders in the area to close. I guess it is mainly CDs/DVDs/Blus that they would be getting that weren't selling elsewhere. Though I don't expect it to be anything real intriguing.

Re: Borders Liquidation

Sign said 70% off DVDs but they rang up as 80%. Wonder if they go to 90% tomorrow. Got:

Jacob's Ladder $2.00
Casino Royale $3.00
Leaving Las Vegas $3.00

Got Silent Hill and The Descent earlier in the week for $4.00 each.

Re: Borders Liquidation

My Border's is closing Saturday and DVDs are now 80% and Blu-rays are 90% off. The problem is there were no more than 7 or 8 total discs left, and nothing particularly compelling.

Re: Borders Liquidation

Just called Redmond, Wa Borders (3rd one I called, the 1st 2 didn't answer). They said 70%, they don't know when they're closing. Glad i called before getting in the car, as that store is a good 45 miles each way.

Edit: Puyallup finally answered. They're also at 70% & closing on 9/16. Based on the last wave, that tells me Wa state stores will probably hit 90% on Wed 9/14.

Based on last time, yes.

I'm sure it's different in each area, but what I saw last time when they hit 90:

TONS of books EXCEPT Sci-Fi. Lots of Sarah Palin, but also lots of musician & actors biographies. Very little Blu & DVD; no box sets. Lots of QUALITY classical cd's & a bit of ok rock, jazz, etc on cd.

Re: Borders Liquidation

Just got back from the Borders in Sterling, Va. 70% off DVDs, 80% off Blu-rays, 70% CDs. Still better than Amazon at those prices. They didn't have a lot of variety in DVDs or Blu-Rays, but they had plenty of TV box sets, like My Name is Earl Season One, Stargate SG1 Seasons One and Two, and so on. The CDs were mostly Christmas music, and there was a TON left. Here's my haul:

A Colbert Christmas $6.00
The Mary Tyler Moore Show Season 1 $9.00
The Mary Tyler Moore Show Season 2 $9.00
The Man with the Golden Gun Blu-Ray $7.00
Bloodsport/ Timecop $4.50
Stephen Lynch at the El Rey $4.50
Stonewall Uprising $7.50
American Dad Season 4 $9.00
Casino Jack and the United States of Money $6.00

Sadly, there were no Criterion box sets.

Today, 9/10, is/was the LAST day for the Borders at Southcenter (Tukwila, south of Seattle). ALL items $1! With nothing worth getting.

I called them also around 9 am & got a tape recording of a girl laughing about Borders store hours!

Grr. I've been up all night & am exhausted. If they had bothered to answer there phone at 9 rather then with a recording, I would have driven up there.

Were there any cd's left?

Re: Borders Liquidation

The two Borders stores in Springfield, PA are apparently staying open for another week--the latest percentage drops have not yet taken effect.

The Springfield Mall store has:
Semi-decent amount of books left
Not much else (it's a Borders Express)

The other Springfield, PA store has:
Tons of books
A few Blu-rays (including Another Year, which I probably should've grabbed)
Some DVDs, including the later Stargate SG-1 sets, Traffik 20th anniversary set, The Lone Gunmen, and some anime DVDs
Has a "buy six items, get an additional 15% off" bonus.

Bryn Mawr, PA has:
A few Blu-rays at 90% off (Stan Helsing, The Open Road, Journey to the Center of the Earth $2)
Some DVDs (lots of Twilight)
Some CDs
Several copies of The Walking Dead Book 6 for $7 each
Down to one floor of books remaining
Has a "buy six items, get an additional 15% off" bonus.

Plymouth Meeting, PA has:
Very few books, and not much else. Has a "buy four items, get an additional 15% off" bonus.

Mount Laurel, NJ has:
No Blu-rays
A few DVDs
A few CDs
Decent amount of books (as of this morning, anyway!)
Also has several copies of The Walking Dead Book 6 for $7 each

Less than 40 (I got lucky and found 1). No blus, less than 10 DVDs. This was at 10am Saturday.

Re: Borders Liquidation

Made my last stop at Borders today and it was picked almost bare. One of the associates told me someone came in at some point Friday and took almost all of the Blus that were left and a lot of DVDs and CDs. There were still a lot of Twilight DVDs and some tv shows on DVD like House, Bones, Stargate SG1 and a couple others.

I ended up getting 3 books and spent $6. Sucks to see stores close but...

Oh well. I'm thinking of hitting Puyallup & Redmond Tues or more likely Wed.
