I think it's unique they said it was for my first order with them, I know I did in the past but it's been awhile I guess. If I don't end up ordering from them by the weekend I'll give the code away as I doubt I'll use it. Just have to decide thats a good buy for seinfeld although I think it will come to blu Ray someday....

It probably meant your first order on the new website. I got a coupon for that as well.

I'll think I'll pick up the Katzman collection and Powell collection. Maybe pick up another season of Bewitched too.

I've never seen any of these. Knowing a bit about my tastes in film, do you think this is something I would find of interest - and worth purchasing?

I called Sony today about The Shield complete collection and they emailed me a Fed-Ex return invoice. So tomorrow I'm going to drop my set off and have it shipped for free and they will send me a replacement set. They guaranteed that my replacement set will be better than this old set and that the discs will be in mint condition and they will also have protective sleeves in each pocket.

Please keep us posted on this. I also ordered The Shield, but it was backordered. Hopefully when the new stock arrives, it will be the corrected case with protective sleeves. But if it isn't, I'm sure I'll have to send mine to Sony, too.

Just got my copy of The Shield. Sure enough, it was from the old batch. Some of the discs were scratched up, some of them have bits of glue stuck on them...repeated insertions/removals cause more scratches...sigh...

Looks like a call to Sony for me as well...

I realize this was a directed reply, but I thought I would go ahead and share a perspective anyway in case it may be of value.

For those that grew up watching Harryhausen films, he truly was gifted at his craft and they are typically viewed in the same light today as back then. I have them all on DVD (not BR but the B/W and colorized combo sets) and would never part with them.

Now in my experience the majority of folks that I know of seeing them for the first time were not as impressed. The truth is the stories, sets, and acting are all on the low side. It is the Harryhausen magic that brings it all to life. In some cases, filming was wrapped of in a matter of a few weeks with Harryhausen taking sometimes a year to put it all together.

So unless you have an interest in older sci fi and fantasy films and can view them with the perspective of what they accomplished at the time they were produced, I would take a pass or try to rent one first and not do a blind buy. But if you have a general interest in the genre and have enjoyed other stop motion type effects (original King Kong, Mighty Joe Young) then you might want to go for it.

Re: DD - Up to 64% off Sony Box Sets

fyi - i had some problems with my order that I thought I would share.

After getting tired of using credit cards, I now use paypal (against my checking account). Only do this with a few vendors that I trust - Deep D is one of those.

As it turns out, paypal only authorizes the withdrawal for 5-7 days. so if something takes longer to ship - or (in my case) something moves to back order, paypal will reject the request for funds.

So.. i order 4 "Icons of" box sets, and noticed on my order history that 'icons of adventure" was cancelled (assuming it went out of stock). Wanting to make sure I got the sales price, I immediately put in another order against my CC.

I then picked up my mail, and got a box with "Icons of adventure" in it!!

tried to cancel my new order and couldn't. called customer support who told me it wasn't Icons of ADVENTURE that was canceled - it was Icons of HORROR!! (even though my order history clearly said that the ADVENTURE canceled and the horror set was ready to ship.

net: the CSR canceled my order for icons of adventure, I put in a new order for Icons of Horror, and I was charged appropriately.

But was surprised that my order history status was wrong and how paypal works with products that move to backlog.

Thought I would share.

Is there anyway to tell from the outside whether the set is old or new? Different UPC or some special notation on the packaging?

I didn't grow up watching Harryhausen, I think Clash of the Titans, his last movie, came out before I was even born, I just appreciate the spirit of creative film making in any form, so I love the innovation & imagination behind these movies. There is just something so pure about them that you don't see in films today. If you can appreciate that, then for this price its worth a blind buy. Have you seen the original King Kong? If you love that then you will likely love these movies. Plus you could probably ebay the set & get your money back if you don't like them.

I really don't think so. At least the return/exchange process is fairly easy except for the one trip to a Fed-Ex location for the dropoff.

I'll post what happens after I call them.

What number is the replacement program? Where did you see it? My copy arrived two days ago. Two out of the first four discs have scratches and/or glue. So, I will be calling as well. I agree that getting the whole thing replaced seems preferable.

Yeah I checked a few disks in my set and they were also scratched or had glue. I found the Sony number and email address by searching TVshowsonDVD, I'll be emailing them soon.

Same deal for people who might be buying Dawson's Creek for $47.98 ($8 a season). I think I may take the plunge on The Shield set if replacing them turns out this easy.

V.I.P. was actually pretty good. It had plenty of humor, and mocked itself without falling into camp.

Add me to the list of folks who received The Shield in the crapackaging. I called the Sony toll free number and they were polite and helpful. I had to give them my address, phone # and email address. The guy even asked me if I purchased it at DD. Apparently, they are getting a lot of calls from those of us who took advantage of the sale. The call didn't take more than 3 minutes.

surprised there aren't more people putting a lot of exclamation points after this one....that's about $8 cheaper than the lowest price it's EVER been since it was released. insane deal at $24 and perhaps the best of all the Sony box sets they've put out.

and it's back in stock as mine shipped yesterday :)

VIP is a fun, campy show and Pam Anderson has a great sense of humor about herself. No one is taking themselves too seriously here. If you like slightly cheesy detective romps set in semi-tropical locations--think Tropical Heat, Acapulco HEAT, even Magnum--you'll probably enjoy VIP. And this is a pretty good price.

I'm sending my Shield set off to Sony later today. I'm hoping to get my new set within the next 2 weeks so I can get back to watching it. A pretty painless return process other than taking it to a Fed-Ex location.

Since they said on here you can send it off for a new copy & someone actually said in their review on AMAZON they got a mint one when they sent it off, I'd go with the complete set if I were you (and I did). I had 4 seasons already but I figured at $63.98 ($9.14 a season) it was a no brainer to buy it for the other 3 seasons plus I could probably sell my single seasons off to a coworker to pay for most of that. ;)

Anything you *might* have to return for a new copy because of shoddy packaging isn't worth buying if there's a suitable alternative. The individual seasons have nice slim case packaging, and I think that's worth the extra cost.

$149.86 (to buy seperately)
- $63.98 (to buy set)
= $85.88 saved

Re: DD - Up to 64% off Sony Box Sets

It's not even close. I bought the Shield Complete series and, even though I had to return it to Sony, I would do the same again even if I knew in advance I would have to return it. All it cost me was a 5 minute phone call to Sony, 3 minutes to put it back in the box and tape it shut, and a 5 mile drive to Fedex. Sony provided free return shipping via a label sent by email. That's not much effort for an $85 savings. And I'm not in such a hurry to watch it that a few more days without it will make a difference.

And The Shield set is a very nice set despite the disc problems. In this day and age of shelf space at a premium and money being tighter this is the better of the two options.
