I'm currently using a region locked DVD recorder, but it has played a Region 0 PAL disc in the past with no problem, so hopefully these will work fine. If not, I'll finally have an excuse to get my DVD drive fixed.

The only Russ Meyer film I've seen is Beyond the Valley of the Dolls. I've watched it at least 8 times since buying it last year and have been jonzing to see more of his stuff ever since. I normally would wait for a US equivalent release, but that doesn't seem likely - and certainly not at this price.

Total came to $40.93 for me.

What I find odd is an auction on Ebay for the set with six bids and the total is up to $49.33 (not including the $9.92 shipping).

As wild as that one is, I think many of his other films are superior, and as they're all indie films that he personally controlled (perhaps micromanaged is a better word), they stand as stronger examples of the man and his beliefs. If you can watch BEYOND eight times, you should find much to savour in the U.K. set, as it covers Meyer's entire career, save for a few odds and ends that aren't really that critical to an understanding (like THE SEVEN MINUTES and some of his early nudie shorts).


Sounds like some buyers aren't doing their research!

I bought this set once before at $50. While it was still on sale at amz.uk I ended up ebaying it and ended up getting $90+shipping for it. No real surprise there. Not everyone in the world uses DVDTalk (but they should ) or has common sense.

I'm not a mod, nor do I play one on TV but if the thread continues down this line (ripping and burning) it will be closed. Just a head's up if anything else. Otherwise, and off the record, I agree with what you are saying.

I just checked and my set has an estimated delivery date of December 7th. I'm not sure I can wait that long!

A bittersweet surprise today when I got home from work. A package from Amazon UK was sitting on my porch. I opened it, excited that I got it so quickly, only to notice that on the top left of the packaging, the cardboard is completely ripped and torn apart. I'm not sure it would be worth the hassle of returning though.

EDIT: WOW! I sent them a message explaining the problem and got the following message:

When sending a replacement for an damaged item, we usually request that you
return the original item to Amazon.co.uk within 30 days of the date on which
Amazon.co.uk confirms we will issue a replacement. However, as the cost of
returning the package is in this case prohibitively expensive, we ask that you

12 regular size DVD cases. Some with a single movie, some with double features, both on the same side.


Nowhere NEAR as good as McDonough's "Big Bosoms and Square Jaws" which is loaded with interviews with nearly everyone who worked with or knew Meyer.

ugh, i hate gargantuan size boxsets now. Especially since I have no shelfspace, ALL my boxsets are in a closet, and now that is getting full.... Time to unload some.

Yeah the boxset is just the original DVD releases collected in a cardboard case.

I picked this up when it was last on special at this price. I have been watching them chronologically backward and I think I much prefer the newer colour movies. His cinematography was at its best and I much prefer the writing. I think my favourites so far are Up!, Common Law Cabin, Beneath the Valley of the Ultra Vixens.

This is a great buy!

I had to order this as well, despite owning about 4 of his US independent releases (which when sold should MORE than cover the cost of this set)

I myself side with Myers earlier works, apart from BVOD, my favorites are Mudhoney, Vixen, and Faster Pussycat Kill Kill (really hope Tarantino gets to remaking this, Im generally hate remakes, but this would be intriguing if it ever pans out)

I'm glad to see Amazon UK providing a better service regarding damaged items. I had bought the Laurel And Hardy Set, and Complete Columbo set, and both times they had me return the items at my expense. Took over 3 months to finally recoup the shipping costs back. I've bought a lot of stuff from Amazon UK, and the box set experiences made me wary. But looks like i'll be in for one of these sets now they have their act together. Thanks for posting your recent experiences.

Got the set in the mail this afternoon. Considering my last Amazon purchase (which happened to be UP - the Pixar film, not the RM one ) took nearly a week to get to me from an Amazon warehouse in AZ, this was very fast service from the UK.

Just checked some of the discs and they play great on my set-up. Love all the cover art as well. The slipcase had a slightly bent bottom corner and some of the shrink wrap was falling off, but I was prepared for much worse. Very happy with this purchase overall.

My thanks as well - got mine today. I wonder if they noticed a spike in US orders of this set. But dang it, the plastic was ripped and there's a horizontal slice across across half the DVD cases, as though someone opened the box with them carelessly and gave me the one on top. That was on the other side from where I opened it so I know it wasn't me.

Given other people's experiences with Amazon UK, I'm glad to know they are more than responsive, but I don't think I can get too upset about a little damage to the plastic case. Asking for another would just feel like I was being exploitative. I mean, more so than I already do for buying the set in the first place.

That's really odd. Mine had the same cut through the same cases. Just the double features, and not deep enough to really be bothered by.

Yeah, same thing here. The slice went right across the spines of the 6 double features, which is why the shrink wrap was hanging off. It wasn't quite deep enough to actually cut through the cases or artwork, so I wasn't that irked by it.

EDIT: Sorry, Croissant! - I was messing with the quote and accidently deleted my original message. Anyway, it's interesting to know other sets had this same defect.
