paramount re-issues from legend films $3.88
was in brandsmart today and noticed a display of paramount re-issues from legend films for $3.88 each. titles I noticed were "mandingo" "king of the gypsies" "framed-with joe don baker of the original walking tall" "student bodies" "the whoopee boys" "some kind of hero-with richard pryor" and "jekyll and hyde together again". all were widescreen, these were all paramount films features from the 70's and 80's, legend films must have made some kind of rights agreement with paramount. picked up "jekyll and hyde together again", one of my guitly pleasures from my wayward youth, its an outrageous very politicly incorrect parody of dr jekyll and mr hyde, a very funny film starring mark blankfield who some might remember from the early 1980s sketch comedy show "fridays" as a scientist that creates a formula that tranforms him into a drug crazed sex maniac. its kind of like the original nutty professor with jerry lewis but alot more outrageous.

Here's a thread that was started last year when word first leaked out about Paramount's licensing of these films:

by the way, these are all titles that originally out on vhs tape in the 70s and 80s, but never released on dvd until last year. I read in a thread that mandingo is the uncut 127 min version, might have to go back and pick that one up. quentin tarantino was quoted somewhere as saying that mandingo is one of the rare instances that a major studio made a big budget full-on exploitation film
