Re: Big Lots Part 6

Hit MWC, OK again last night, nothing new - plenty of shelf space, though, if they get another shipment. I pretty much gave up the daily visits - between following this thread and store visits, it was like a second job. I have a feeling they might get some $10 sets tomorrow. Based on previous postings, we seem to be 1-2 weeks behind everyone else and the $10 sets have never shown up here. Of course, about half the stuff never shows up at all. Good luck to all.

Awesome finds Brian. I'm looking for a few of those sets you mentioned above and maybe you can help me out with one of each of the following, if you can get them...D&M, Huckleberry, Josie, Perils of penelope Pitstop, Popeye V1 and WB Academy Awards Collections. I appreciate it.

Re: Big Lots Part 6

I don't know how they divvy it up regionally, but let's hope there's something to that idea about different parts of the country being behind others. Tuesday is the shipment day for most stores here in Houston, and they generally don't put it out until the next day, so only time will tell. I haven't heard of anyone in the South finding any of the $10 sets.

Re: Big Lots Part 6

Are people finding new stock in the day after their stores get their truck shipments in? The majority of stores by me say they get trucks on thursday nights. But I dont want to waste my time if this was a one shipment type thing.

Re: Big Lots Part 6

For those here that are looking for:

Tex Avery's Complete Droopy Theatrical Shorts
Hong Kong Phooey Complete
George of the Jungle Complete (1967)
Godzilla titles from Classic Media (I've seen 3 of the 7 from the box)

These are all found at a store called Five Below if you live on the East Coast:

http://www.fivebelow.com/storelocator

All discs are $5. each.

I think I'm running out of steam with this current frenzy. I really want a couple more things, but I don't think I'll find them locally and I'm starting to loathe all the driving around.

Re: Big Lots Part 6

I know the feeling. I'm thinking everything is about tapped out here, but I found most of what I was looking for. What stuck in my craw is knowing that I arrived at some stores too late. Missed them by that much!

What I'm wondering about is if things will go back to the way it was, or is this going to become "the new normal." Warner's made a big product dump. I wonder if another studio is preparing to do the same. Maybe Paramount/CBS is prepping to remainer their TV boxsets. Since Fox shut down its Classics division, maybe we'll see that stuff start showing up.

I heard a story on NPR this morning talking about how the collapse of the DVD market is putting the studios in a bind, with some on the verge of bankruptcy. And with the existence of Hulu and other online delivery methods, people may just get out of the habit of buying pressed media altogether.

This is where I'm at as well. I've probably used at least a tank of gas looking for the last few sets I want. I think at this point I would be better served by buying them used on Amazon. Otherwise any $3 sets I pick up are actually going to cost a lot more.

I've bought more DVDs in the past few months than ever before. Now that prices are coming down, I'm stocking up. As far as online delivery vs. pressed media, there's just something about holding the disc in your hand that is better, as far as I'm concerned. Not to mention all the extras, bonus features, and such.

Re: Big Lots Part 6

I agree with Belar. Even with media backup, I really don't want large segments of my movie collection at risk of a network outage and/or hard drive crash.

On topic: has ANYONE in California seen the $10 sets yet? (hoping "no", so I can believe they just haven't made it here yet....)

Re: Big Lots Part 6

Stupid second guessing myself. I spent the day putting up gutters at my grandmother's house and was tempted to stop at the Danvers, MA, store before I went over. I decided it would be a wasted trip. Then coming back around 1, I also decide stopping would be a wasted trip. So around 4 I say screw and go over anyway. And guess what? They had a bunch of new stuff.

They had a lot a $6 sets I hadn't seen there before:
ER
Dallas
Knots Landing
Friends
the Drew Carey Show
the Jamie Foxx Show
Roots
Blade
Wonder Woman (seasons 2 & 3)
Super Friends vol 2
Smallville season 4
Smallville season 7 (blu-ray)
football DVDs (I think it was Broncos maybe?)

For new $3 sets they had:
Everwood
Flintstones Seasons 2, 4, 6 (all unsealed, plenty of 2, two copies of 4 & 6)
Adventures of Superman seasons 2, 3/4, 5/6 (one copy each)
The Warner Bros Academy Awards set (2 copies)
Superman Theatrical Serials collection (3 copies)

I bought Blade, Super Friends, Flintstones 4 & 6, Adventures of Superman 2, 3/4, 5/6, the Academy Awards collection and the Superman Theatrical Serials collection (for trade). I can't help but wonder what I missed by not going earlier. I have a feeling I probably missed Adventures of Superman season 1, Flintstones season 5 and the Wonder Woman collection. However, who knows what they might have in the back.

Re: Big Lots Part 6

I'm pretty sure Northeast florida got shafted when it came to Tales from the crypt.

6 jacksonville stores (only saw one set, in the hoarders cart). Only 3 of these stores got any of the 3 dollar titles.
St Aug. No TFTC
3 Daytona locations (two of the stores didn't get any 3 dollar titles, 1 store did, a ton of lois and clark. But few of anything else)
Cocoa Fl ( Some Hanna barbera stuff, and the American girls stuff)

So out of all these stores, not much TFTC.

Re: Big Lots Part 6

I went today at lunch and seemed hopeful, against my better judgment, since I saw the truck unloading yesterday. Yet there was nothing. My ears did stand up when I looked over and the area looked different, but they had just moved two of the "Fox" four sided displays to a location further on. I though they might've put in a table full of $10 box sets, yet it was just a false hope. Same old same old.

I wonder if there's a "$10 box set" ad coming out one day? Remember these $3 box sets were showing up far before the actual advertised sale.

I'm becoming a fixture at BL. Maybe if I disguise myself as a four sided cardboard display I can get a jump on the Canadians, the hoarders, and the reselling looters?

BTW, I hit three BLs in Central Texas over the weekend and none of them had the $10 box sets (someone asked earlier). Could be because they're sold out or that our area had not gotten them yet though.

Re: Big Lots Part 6

I haven't seen any mention of $9 sets, but I found a shelf full of these today (Fairview Heights, IL).

They were all those 50 movie packs:

Family Fun 50 Movie Pack
Musicals Classics 50 Movie Pack
Suspense Classics 50 Movie Pack
Crime Classics 50 Movie Pack
Historic Classics 50 Movie Pack
Action Classics 50 Movie Pack
Chilling Classics 50 Movie Pack

...there may have been a couple more. There was one that was 80/90 movies that was something like Screen (or Hollywood) Legends. I didn't buy any, but thought someone may be interested in these.

My favorite find was the "Warner Brothers Home Entertainment Academy Awards Animation Collection - 15 Winners, 26 Nominees" 3-disc set!
Good thing to hear your calling worked... I called today to all 3 stores by where I work.. 1 said "yes, we still have tons... we put them out on Sunday and still have lots left".... of course referring to the $3 Hanna Barbara Season Sets.. When I got there... NOTHING!!!!!!!! I asked and was told that they must have misunderstood and thought I wanted ANY animation for $3.... and that they had more in the back so come back Thursday... Yeah Right.... If I didn't have so much good with other stores, I might begin to boycott cause of crap employees.....

Early on the store on San Jose in Jax had some of the Hanna Barbera sets, Nip Tuck Blu-Ray, etc but nothing I was interested in. I've never seen any looney tunes sets, $10 sets or much of anything else decent at the other stores I've been to. Just the usual junk everyone else is seeing. I got tired of looking.....

I'm done. Made a sweep of three new stores not too far out of my way. All they had was Popeye (with comic at least), Dukes and -- wait for it -- JOEY! Unless someone reports new shipments showing up, the only time I'm going back for a while is to return some leftovers.

There were at least 5 copies of each, so you should be able to get what you want.
