Re: Big Lots Part 5
The hoarding in widely known sales is very unfortunate... I'd have been willing to pay more on the highly sought after sets if it made
them less appealing to hoarders. But part of the blame lies in the cheap prices BL set for this sale... Ten bucks for some of them sets is incredible... As three for season sets is awfully hard for hoarders looking to make a quick buck... I feel fortunate to have scored all the Flintstones as well as the first five Tales from the Crypt seasons, along with some other sets. Very few stores had anything of note yesterday... Hit maybe three or four decent stores out of about 20 visited over the past week...praying my local stores get some of the best sets this week. |
Re: Big Lots Part 5
I stopped by a BL earlier and someone just looking around the DVDs told me that he went to a local flea market over the weekend and saw TONS of these titles there where people had bought out BL, and were trying to sell things for $20+ each.

Re: Big Lots Part 5
After going to 5 big lots today in northern ohio around cleveland, did not find much:
Brookpark: NOTHING Parma Heights: NOTHING Fairview Park: NOTHING Elyria: Huckleberry Hound, Johhny Quest, TopCat (tons of these) and all the Tales from the crypts seasons, murphy brown(?!) Lorain: All the flintstones seasons, Adventures of superman seas. 1-4, Batman animated series 1-2, wacky races Spent 4 hours out today running around on my day off to look for popeye for 3 dollars and couldn't find it. I think most of these BIGLOTS are holding off putting this stuff out. Very mixed bag of sightings today. |
Re: Big Lots Part 5

Are these $10 sets on the 4-sided rack or are they with the electronics?

I hit my last store 25 minutes before closing. They had a ton of $3 sets (no $10 sets in sight). Got the following $3 sets for $2.40 with coupon: Flintstones 1,2,3,4,5 Lois & Clark 1,2,3,4 Tales of the Crypt 2,3,4,5 The Perils of Penelope Pitstop God The Devil and Bob Birdman & The Galaxy Trio Jacques Cousteau River Explorations Adventures of Superman S5/6 Veronica Mars S2 Wacky Races Jonny Quest Josie and the Pussycats Pebbles & Bamm Bamm Huckleberry Hound Show Top Cat Bad Influence (guilty pleasure) 10 minutes after I walked into the store (now 15 minutes before closing), an employee blares over the loudspeaker "the store is closing, please bring your selections to the cash registers." I've gathered up almost everything I want, a couple starts looking at the $3 boxsets and starts pointing at the $3 price sticker. They are talking in a foreign language, but it was easy to figure out what they were thinking/talking when they guy runs away and quickly comes back with a shopping cart. Both of them start loading up the cart with all the $3 sets they can grab. I wanted to wring their slimy little necks with both of my hands! I got what I wanted and went to go stand in line at the cash registers. 5 minutes later these clowns have a FULL shopping cart of $3 sets. They are the last in line. Both were talking on their cell phones. You can bet that those sets will end up at the local swap meet/flea market. At least they did not have the 20% off coupon! |

I sent them such an email and I suggest that as many people as possible do the same, they is a section of thier home page that says "contact us" where you can do just that. personally, I would love to see the look on some horder's face when they come up to the register with a shopping cart full of box sets, and the clerk tells them something like "sorry, 2 of each title per customer is the most you can buy" maybe the greedy yuppy f-k will start wining and crying and throw the typical tantrum

BCI stuff I already have pretty much everything I want from BCI (their Filmation catalog titles and game show releases), but I might be willing to pick up a "back-up" set of each to salt away if they start turning up at BL stores nationwide. Now, if BBC Video titles start turning up at BL for $3 or $6: I'll probably have a coronary! They're distributed by Warner, so who knows... |
Re: Big Lots Part 5
I just went to the BL by my job on my lunch and they must've just unloaded the truck because they had almost everything people have found. Unfortunately, no Looney Tunes, but I did manage to grab Crypt S1,2, and 5 along with Batman TAS v3. Not bad for my lunch break.

Unfortunately, some of them will probably do quite well for themselves, but others may end up holding the bag, so to speak. I guess it remains to be seen. |

Hi all, I don't post that much here, but I just felt the need to help out my fellow BL DVDTalkers. I'm in the Orlando/Central Florida area, and did a check yesterday or these stores, all of which seem pretty cleaned out from the sale.
Longwood/SR17-92: not much at all, still some OC, a few Drew Carey S1, Dallas S7 (in amaray cases, like they were meant for Blockbuster rentals) Sanford/SR17-92: a little more, a couple of Superfriends V2, Tracey Takes On S1, Flintstones S2&3. Edgewater Dr: very nice store, very clean! But, picked over. A few Superfriends V2, Penelope Pitstop. Casselberry/SR436: Flintstones S3 (all unwrapped, but in good shape). Colonial/Waterford Lakes: Worst of all, didn't see ANY boxsets, very few DVDs, and no real sign that they've ever had them. Over the last week or so, I have found some of the titles, but have never seen any Smallville sets, WW, Looney Tunes/$10 sets, Wacky Races, Batman Animated, etc. I don't know if it's just unlucky, or they're all being bought up by traders/sellers. I'll be checking out a few again on the way home from work today, so I'll post when I have updates. I DO NOT THINK FLORIDA HAS SEEN ANY PART OF THE $10 sets. Its a real shame too. :( |

And that's pretty much the only place, in my opinion, that resellers will have any luck turning any kind of profit on this stuff, by selling to people who don't go to to Big Lots and also don't shop for this kind of stuff online, because the people who're trying to flip these online are just driving down the selling prices of these sets anyway (from what little I've noticed on Amazon marketplace and eBay), so there's not really any profit to be made from these by e-selling.
Unfortunately, some of them will probably do quite well for themselves, but others may end up holding the bag, so to speak. I guess it remains to be seen. Just a few months back I would wander in and there would be no one looking at the DVDs,yesterday they were buzzing like bees around the pile of DVDs. |

I did find Wacky Races at Glen Burnie which was the main one I was looking for (thanks for the previous heads-up)... BIG Muttley fan here! <- Muttley laugh |

Agreed, except for Looney Tunes 1-5, that would be easy money, nice profit... flipping is a waste of time to me, but I would make an exception if I ever found that lol.

Re: Big Lots Part 5
If things make it to the floor at all. In chatting with a friendly manager on Saturday I got the impression that one of her employees bought the Looney Tunes set before it was even put out.
If they're selling them this cheap, I wonder what BL paid to WB??

Re: Big Lots Part 5
I just came back from my local Big Lots in Allentown and Trexlertown, PA. The second one didn't have anything new (lots of Joey and OC), but none of the $3.00 sets. In the first one I finally found Tales from the Crypt S2, S3 and S5 (there were a couple left of this one), as well as the last copy of Top Cat. I am hoping they put the new sets on the Trexlertown store soon so I can complete my Tales of the Crypt series!!

Re: Big Lots Part 5
anyone else notice that with the tracey ullman box sets, that season 2 is $6, but season 1 is only $3

Peeked into BL this morning quickly to see the aftermath of the 20% off sale, like I expected the DVD rack was picked clean... only box sets left were a few Larry Kings and a lone Popeye (and when I left yesterday morning, there were about 20 Popeyes and Season 2 Flintstones left!). |

Re: Big Lots Part 5
Hatch Road in Modesto just put out some selection. She saw I picked up some Flintstones and she says "We got a lot of dvds in those boxes, wanna look?" Okay...so she opened them all in front of me. 5 boxes, one Flintstones seas 3, one Tracey Ullman, one War at Home, and 2 Popeyes. She did not know of any $10 box sets, nice lady though. I didn't buy anything from the boxes but she said they just got a truck in today and there could be more in a few days.

Notice how many swaps are being made in the exchange thread, yet nobody is trading the Looney Tunes set even though it's on everyone's want list and is being found in plenty of people on the board ;)

I wonder if Big Lots, planned and on purpose, sent some stores the $3.00 sets early to get an internet buzz going and create more foot traffic to all the stores. |
